She followed Mia into a kitchen that was almost as big as her loft. Like everything else she’d seen, it was pristine. And it smelled amazing.
“Before things get hectic, I wanted to give you these.” She slid two business cards onto the counter.
London reached for them and studied the names. Both were for art galleries in River North.
“I know you’ve wanted to have your own show for a while, and my position at the museum does have some perks, like knowing people in the art world. I mentioned you to them and they might be interested.”
“Oh my God. Really? I can’t believe it. Thank you!” She rushed forward and threw her arms around Mia, who still stood ramrod straight.
Slowly Mia’s hands came up and patted London’s back. “It’s not a sure thing. Obviously, they’ll need to see your work.”
London released her. “I know. But just getting the chance is more than I’ve had in a long time.”
“There’s no rush or deadline, so when you have items that you think would make a good show, call them.”
“I will. Thanks.”
“Now go relax with everyone else in the living room.”
London slid the cards into her pocket and made her way back to the living room. She sat next to Nikki.
“What was that about?” Nikki asked.
“Nothing. Just art stuff. She gave me the names of a couple of people who might be willing to host a show for me.” She practically vibrated with excitement, but her brain went blank when she thought about what to create for a show.
“Cool.”
London glanced around and then asked, “Does Logan know who he’s eating dinner with?”
“Didn’t ask,” Nikki answered.
“Isn’t that something we should know so we don’t say the wrong thing?”
Nikki snorted. “I always say the wrong thing.”
“They have a mutual agreement of don’t ask, don’t tell,” Jared said before taking a sip of the whiskey he held.
“But he’s gotta assume, right? I mean, especially when he looks at us? We don’t exactly look like Mia’s socialite friends.”
“He can assume all he wants. I don’t think he’d do anything even if he had confessions from all of you,” Wade said.
“All ofus?” Nikki said. “What about you?”
“I’m a nobody. He wasn’t looking for me.”
“Oh yeah, I bet that would change once I mention the Carlisle.”
“I was a footnote in that situation. You guys were the main text.”
“Getting all fancy with your metaphors now?”
“I have to keep up with this crowd.”
“Where’s Audrey?” London asked.
“She’s on her way. She’s bringing her grandmother.”
“We get to meet Gram? Yay!” London said. She’d heard so much about the woman who’d raised Audrey that she felt like she already knew her.
