I leave my phone in my room. The only person I’ve gotten messages from today was Bridget, wanting an update on my review for the resort. She’s anxious to see the video before I post it.

I can’t help but wonder what went on between Bridget and Logan. How do they know each other? It was clear he didn’t want to discuss it in front of Julianna, but his daughter isn’t in my hotel room.

“Can I ask you something?” I shove the room key into my pants pocket, making sure not to lock myself out.

“Anything,” Logan says, his eyes staring straight into my soul. I inhale sharply, trying to catch my breath.

“Bridget Lancaster. How well do you know my boss?”

His nostrils flare, and he shoves his hands into his pockets. “She’s friends with my ex-wife. Years ago, Bridget hit on me while I was married and didn’t seem to care that she and Jess were best friends.”

“Some friend she was.”

“Oh, I know.” Logan’s eyes widen. “It gets worse. When Jess was cheating on me, she used to tell me that she was grabbing coffee with Bridget or going to see a chick flick with Bridget. In all honesty, she was using her as an excuse to screw her new fuckboy.”

His hands are bunched into fists at his side.

“I’m sorry, I had no idea,” I say.

“That woman is the devil.”

I don’t disagree with him. I’ve never been particularly fond of Bridget. But there had never been a specific reason not to like her. At times, she was hard on me, but I always took it as her trying to be a mentor to me in the field.

“She’s difficult,” I say.

“And you work for her.” There’s a tension that seeps through his veins and makes him stand taller.

“I promise, Logan, I’m nothing like her.”

“Good, because I don’t deal with liars or cheats.” He pulls me into his embrace for a hug. “No more Bridget talk, please?”

I exhale a sigh of relief. The conversation got heavy way too fast. “That works for me.”

We head out the door of my hotel room. “Do you need me to carry you?” he asks, sweeping me up off my feet as he brings me down to the elevator.

“I’m fine. Really, you can put me down!” I can’t stop laughing until my feet are firmly planted on the ground. Logan keeps his arm around my waist, making sure that I’m steady and won’t fall.

He’s perfect. Albeit too perfect. Why did his ex-wife ever stray? What crazy woman would break Logan’s heart? I never want to be on the other side of his wrath.

“Cali!” Jules’ eyes light up when she sees me following Logan inside. “Are you staying for dinner?”

“I am, if that’s okay with you.” I’m not sure how she’s handling the fact that her father is dating. However, she seemed to be shoving us together last night.

“I’d love for you to stay. I mean, for dinner.” She clears her throat. “Have you talked to my dad about the summer internship?”

“What’s this about an internship?” Logan asks, raising an eyebrow at me.

“Every summer,Vacationer’s Paradiseoffers an internship for at least one high school student.” Jules’ eyes are bright and wide. “I hope it’s me!”

“Absolutely not,” Logan interjects. “You’re not working with Bridget Lancaster.”

“But what about Cali? I would work with you, wouldn’t I?” Jules asks.

“You would, but your father is right. You’d be directly reporting to Bridget while helping me.”

Jules whines and plops down on the sofa in a huff. “That sucks. Why do I get punished for what Bridget and Mom did? How is that fair?”

“Life isn’t always fair,” Logan says. “The sooner you learn that, the better.”
