“You scared me!” I whispered back loudly, turning around to look at him, seeing he had a big smirk on his face.

“It was hilarious.” His eyes twinkled. “Come on, let’s go.” He took my hand, pulling me toward my backyard.

“This is crazy!”

“It’s fun though, isn’t it?” He looked at me. “Anyway, you’re the one who told me you’re rebellious. Don’t think I forgot.” After a beat, he added, “I love when you rebel, by the way.”

He held my hand as we snuck into the woods behind my house. As soon as we were safely in the shadows of the trees, having walked a few yards in, he pushed me up against a tree trunk and put his mouth on mine, one hand weaving into my hair and the other balanced on the tree behind me. I pushed my tongue into his mouth, savoring the taste of him as my hands slid up his back under his T-shirt.

“Mmm, I missed you,” he said, pulling away for a second, and then finding my mouth again. His mouth tasted minty, like he had just brushed his teeth right before coming to meet me. I gave in to him completely, enjoying his body against mine, my hands on his muscular back, his warm skin under my fingertips. I couldn’t decide if it was the night that was hot and humid or if it was my body, feeling overheated, our T-shirts both feeling damp against our bodies.

His lips moved from my mouth slowly over to my left ear, softly tickling me as he kissed along the edge of it, and then changed to nibbling gently on my earlobe. Shivers traveled up and down my body. I was completely turned on, my nipples tingling. It was like he could read my mind as he kissed down to my neck and moved his hand under my shirt, gliding up my body and finding one of my breasts, softly squeezing it. My nipple was hard against his palm, and I suddenly wished my bra wasn’t shielding me from feeling the skin of his hand.

He trailed kisses up and down my neck, and I softly moaned, loving the feeling of his stubble brushing against my sensitive skin. I was completely aroused, my panties drenched, my whole body on fire, damp with sweat. I felt like I couldn’t get close enough to Blake or feel enough of his kisses and touches.

“I’m rebelling tonight too, you know.” He spoke into my ear, his mouth so close that his five o’clock shadow was practically tickling me. “I’m supposed to be doing rounds of the patrol stations right now. But I wanted to see you.”

I looked up into his eyes as they glowed in the darkness from his night vision, like two bright blue orbs. My heart beat fervently in my chest, two feelings emerging simultaneously—a warmth from within, the temperature in my heart matching the heat of my skin, but also a panic that we shouldn’t be doing this. I put my hands on his chest, pushing on him gently.

“Is everything okay?” he asked, searching my face.

“What are we doing?” I asked, feeling suddenly that this was a very important question.

“We’re doing what’s natural, what we both want to do.”

“But it’s wrong!”

“Why’s it wrong? We’re both single. You haven’t met your mate yet. And no one has to know about this. I’m good at being sneaky.” He winked.

“My mom finds out about everything that goes on in this pack.”

“Well, has she found out about us yet?” he questioned, looking at me.

“No, but...,” I replied, my voice trailing.

“Stop denying what you really want.” He put his hands on my arms, brushing them up and down.

I pulled away. “Why do you assume I want this? Because you’re the hot sexy alpha with big, huge muscles, and everyone wants you? You think everyone just naturally loves you? And it’s impossible for someone to just not be interested?”

If I didn’t know any better, he looked a bit stung as I said that, stepping backward. And, just like that, the look was gone, and he stepped forward again. “Really, you don’t want this?” He gestured at his body. “Because I’m pretty sure you were just all over me, enjoying what was happening just as much as I was. I felt your hands under my shirt. You were ready to take it off.”

“I was not!” I instantly replied.

He shook his head, a silly smile on his face.

“Why are you shaking your head like that?” I asked.

“Because you’re so hot and cold. It’s amusing. You definitely keep me on my toes. But I get it.”

“You do?” I asked, looking up at him.

“Sure, I can relate. You told me your parents were really hard on you growing up. The thing is, it was the same for me. It’s hard to stop trying to make them proud, even when no matter what you do, it’s never enough.” He looked away into the distance, appearing as if he were lost in thought. I squeezed his hand, once again feeling affection for Blake. He looked down at me, appearing a bit sad. “Anyway,” he continued, “I should probably do some of my alpha duties tonight. I’m glad I got to see you though.” He gave me a smile and leaned over to kiss my cheek. “Have a good night.”

“Bye, Blake,” I replied, watching him walk into the darkness of the forest. Goddess, what was I doing? As much as I knew it was completely wrong, I couldn’t help the affection I felt for him.
