“A’ight. See you then, buddy.”

I hang up and throw on some clothes, then grab my keys and wallet from the bedside table.

As I’m walking down the hall, I notice Amy’s room door is open, so I decide to stop for a second.

I knock on the open door, causing both her and Demi to look up from where they’re crouched over a laptop screen on the bed.

“I’ll be back. I have to go pick something up from work.” I don’t know why I feel the need to tell them this, it just felt…right.

Amy jumps up from her bed and comes running over. “Oooo, can we come? I’ve been in this house all day and if I don’t go do something with my life, I’ll probably die.” She clasps her hands together in a begging motion and I glance back at Demi who just shakes her head.

“A little dramatic, don’t you think?”

“I feel like I just watched a Broadway play,” Demi starts to smile but quickly stops when my lips kick up. “Besides, Amy, weren’t we supposed to do something for your TikTok or whatever?”

“That can wait. Hanging out with Canon sounds more fun.”

“I’m not even doing anything forreal,” I say, trying to convince her not to come. I don’t want anyone in town to see us and start to target her or anything.

I look at Goldilocks and see what looks like a relieved look on her face and something inside of me decides it wants to push her buttons.

“Matter of fact, you can come. Let’s go.” Although there’s a slight risk, I’m willing to take a chance just for a couple hours with an uncomfortable Demi.

This was a mistake.

Amy has been talking non-stop the entire car ride about her love for everything natural and organic. It’s been driving me and probably Demi crazy since we left the house.

Imagine if I had to grow up listening to this.

I pull the black BMW 5 series that Kane gave me to drive into the lot at the back of the building.

“You work at a weed shop!?” Amy practically yells. “How did I not know this? Demi did you know?”

Demi just shakes her head from where she sits in the backseat.

“What’s the big deal?” I ask as I step out the car.

“Well for one, I’ve always wanted to try it, but I was always scared. Is there organic or non-GMO weed?” I look at her crazy but of course she’s dead serious. I then look at Demi who just stands there with her car door open and we both burst out laughing.

“What?” Amy asks, starting to sound annoyed.

“Of course weed is a plant, so if it’s grown naturally with no interference of any kind from anyone, it’ll be considered organic. Weed can be non-GMO. If you’re smoking genetically modified marijuana, you’ll either be dead or tripping hard as fuck.”

Amy nods, “Noted.”

I lead them through the backdoor and continue talking.

“Everything we sell at Floaty Feelings is organically grown and free of any GMOs. Just don’t think I’m going to sell anything to you. If you want to experiment with drugs, do that shit on your own accord.”

Amy deflates and Demi chuckles.

Sal is in his office when we walk through the back, past the lockers. Crazy to think that a few weeks ago, the only family I had was Mason and Ian. Now I’m walking in with my new sister and her best friend.

“Yo,” I say as I walk up to Sal’s office door. Amy and Demi go explore the sales floor.

“Took you long enough.” He leans back in his office chair to open the filing cabinet next to him, pulling out a white envelope.
