We got to our suite on the third floor and immediately, we all went to our own bathrooms. The suite had three rooms, a living room, a loft area for games, a kitchen, and a balcony with a hot tub. It was one of the more expensive ones, but we got it in a package deal, so it turned out to be great.

Once I showered and got dressed, I looked myself over in the mirror as I started doing my makeup. I let it air dry for thirty minutes before blow drying it and styling it with the wand. My outfit was a v-cut, black sweater dress paired with three-inch black, over the knee boots. It was going to be a great first night with the girls, regardless of Luz and Dorian being there.

We had made a reservation at one of the resort's most popular restaurants. We had fifteen minutes to be there, and the girls weren’t ready yet.

“Savannah, JJ!” I called as I waited in the living room, “We’re going to lose our reservation, and they’re booked so unless you want to eat pizza, hurry up.”

“Go ahead and get the table; we’ll be down in a few.” JJ shouted back.

“OK.” In a few, could mean a few minutes to forty minutes with those two. After drinking half a gallon of water when we got back from the bar, I felt nearly sober by seven o’clock, so a drink was needed. Taking an extra key card with me, I headed towards the elevator to take me to the top floor. Making my way down the halls, I could hear voices, laughter from some of the rooms and as much as I didn’t want to wonder. My mind went there; could they be in there somewhere?

Ugh. I didn’t want to think about them, but they were here somewhere in the resort.

Pressing the button for the elevator, I waited impatiently while I looked through the notifications on my phone. Mostly it was work-related things that I made sure I set alarms for in the morning so I would go through it then.

The elevator stopped and opened. As I walked in, another person came up behind me, so I scooted to the right. When I reached to press the top-level button, I turned to the man standing next to me.

“What floor?” It came out before I could recognize who it was but as soon as I looked up at him__

Fuck me sideways! I was sure the look on my face told him he was the last person I expected to be in an elevator with.

My cell phone slipped out of my hands and dropped loudly on the floor as the elevator started to move. I fumbled to pick it up.

“Maya.” The way he said it, in a low, seductive voice. In that inviting voice, I hated but I used to love so much. Deep, a little rough, and most certainly sexy.

In that moment, all I could think of was WHY ME?

I straightened up as soon as I got my phone. Taking slow but quiet breaths, I controlled my nerves the best I could.

“Dorian.” In what I hoped was a monotone voice, I said, “what a surprise.” It came out before I could think of what to say, so I turned to face the elevator doors.

His gaze was on me even though I didn’t look his way. My body warmed with those dark eyes of his. I didn’t have to look over at him to know the look he was watching me closely and making me melt on the spot just by his presence.

I know pathetic.

Stop it. I told myself and turned to face him.

“Why are you here?” I blurted it out to cut the silence. Looking Dorian over, I could tell that he wasn’t in a great mood, and my thoughts went back to earlier when I noticed him and Luz arguing or at least it seemed like a disagreement.

He watched me with those chocolate-colored eyes and sighed, “She’s gone.” He shrugged, sounding disappointed but not sad, if that makes sense. “We broke up for good. Luz got a call a few weeks back about covering the story about what’s going in Ukraine and ever since then we’ve been getting into it because she wanted to do it but wanted me to drop everything and leave with her. I said no, I proposed,” He paused, pursing his lips, “but I knew it wasn’t because I was in love with her. I’ve never been.”

This whole time I had my guard up, arms crossed, my back against the elevator as my mind raced. What was he saying?

Dorian cleared his throat, “Anyway, Luz and I were roommates and friends more than anything. I’ll admit that I didn’t want her to leave, but it was out of fear because I knew the day she was out of my life, I would find you again__.”

The elevator came to a stop at the top floor.

My ears couldn’t believe what he was saying and then again, I had to keep it together and take in what he just confessed. What I was thinking though, was probably not what he wanted to hear.

“I’m not a toy Dorian. You didn’t want to be in a committed relationship and then you went and dated one of my friends.” I kept my voice even, giving him an icy glare.

He reached over, getting close to me to push the button again so the doors would stay closed.

“I know it was wrong, and nothing I say is going to change what happened, but I know I can be in a committed relationship and not fuck it up.”

My eyes widened, “What? So was this you testing it out? To see if you could be loyal or something? I’m confused. Do you thinkthatis any better than what you were doing to me?” I pushed him away gently and pressed the button for the doors to open. “I can’t believe you;she just leftDorian and the fact that you think I’m going to be waiting around for you to be the man I want to be with is wrong.”

The doors open and I started walking out; I was done with that conversation.
