“Phone,” Frances demanded.
“That won’t be necessary.” A raspy voice blanketed me, and I had to squeeze my thighs together.
A single glance over my shoulder solidified my suspicions. Rem stood next to my table, sporting her leather jacket and black-on-black attire. Her hair was gelled back, and her honey-colored eyes were brighter with the dark charcoal lined around them.
“This has nothing to do with the kings,” Frances said. He glared at her, but he wasn’t sitting down anymore. His hands were balled up at his sides.
He sees Rem as a threat.
Where Frances was in a hostile stance, she was relaxed, looking as if she was chatting with an old friend and not someone who wanted to fight her.
She winked at me, and my stupid body heated up. I couldn’t stand them, all four of the kings, but why in the fuck were all of them hotandmy type? It was like I was set up from the start.
I flipped her off, and she smiled. “Soon, baby.”
Soon what?My heart rate picked up, and my damn pussy decided it was in the mood. Fuck my life.
“Good thing you’re not in charge of anything here. Now get moving,” Rem said.
Frances took a step toward Rem, and I was up before I thought better of it.
“Fuck, she’s stupid,” Nelly whispered.
She wasn’t wrong. What the hell was I doing? If they wanted to fight, it had nothing to do with me. At the same time, it did. And letting it happen felt like I’d be in Rem’s debt for coming and getting in between whatever was happening.
“Lisa had to get flown out for extensive surgery,” Frances said.
Shit, had I broken her nose that badly? It couldn’t call for surgery.
“Good for her. She had her father’s nose anyway,” Rem said.
“Bitch.” Frances stepped closer, but his friend and five others came up behind him.
All five wore letterman jackets, and behind them was the douche who’d tricked me into a damn cage. If the cafeteria was quiet before, it was now more silent than a morgue. No one moved. All eyes were on us.
Rem still seemed unbothered as she slipped her leather jacket off slowly and handed it to me. The sleeves of her black shirt were rolled up, showing off all the muscle in her arms. I took it on instinct before I snapped out of my lust-filled stupor.
“Hey.” I stepped toward Rem, but she paid no attention to me.
Rem smirked. “Frances, I need to remind you of what your own blood tastes like?”
“You got lucky,” Frances spat, his face reddening as he glared at Rem.
The attention was off of me. It would have been the perfect opportunity to sneak out, but my feet were firmly glued to the spot.
“How about this time I teach you what dirt tastes like.” Rem’s voice deepened. The calm way she’d threatened his life sent chills and tingles down my spine.
“No need,” some guy said. He stepped up and placed a hand on Frances’s shoulder. Instantly, he backed up along with the football guys.
“Are you challenging the kings to their rule?” Mac asked.
I felt him behind me, uncertain when he’d stood up. I’d never had a friend try and stand up for me before. My old school was every man for themselves. You just didn’t drag anyone into your shit.
The guy looked relaxed and maybe bored. “No, nothing like that. Frances here just cares a lot about his cousin. And someone does have to pay for what happened to Lisa. If we just let anyone do whatever they want, then why are we restrained to the rules?”
Rem backed up and placed an arm around my shoulders. I was so lost I didn’t remove it.Damn, she smells amazing.
“The kings made it clear that the new girl belongs to us.”
