Not a bad idea.

Rem laughed. “You break, and I’ll carve.” Her eyes were on the new girl as well.

This could be promising. I tucked the ideas fluttering around my head for a later date.

Samson sighed and almost let his million-dollar smile drop. Perfection could never crack in front of others. A warm chuckle left him, but it was just as empty as his eyes. The smile was even brighter than before. “Shall I get the dump site ready?”

Yes, balanced on the tip of my tongue, and I barely held back from giving in. I knew killing the police chief’s son would land us in more hot water than we could handle. We might get away with murder but not of someone important.

I blew out a breath and dragged my eyes away from the girl. She’d soon be forgotten, and her face would start to blend in with all the other women that surrounded me. “No, let’s go.”

I needed to forget her like yesterday’s news. If there was one thing I didn’t need, it was pussy distracting me from my true aim, ruling over Aridole.

Very little inthis life grabbed my full attention, and that happened to be the special new blood bag that walked into the party. Even as I followed Lux through the back doors and headed toward the pool house, my gaze continued to stray toward her.

“What’s her blood type?” I glanced over my shoulder to look at Samson.

Now that we were outside, away from the crowd, his smile dropped, and his empty eyes held no emotion. His mask fell away to reveal his true self, a monster parading around like he was a man. Then again, it could be said the same for me, except I didn’t hide what I was. I let my crazy show be loud and clear and reveled in it.

Very few freedoms were in the world, and I took all of them for myself. Never knew when a bullet would cut through the air and land right between my eyes. The sweet promise of death was what woke me up every morning. There was no other way of going out for me. Old age was the last of my worries.

“AB negative,” Samson said.

I stopped dead in my tracks and turned back toward the mansion.

“Hawke,” Lux growled out, his voice its usual gruff tone.

“She’s a rarity,” I pleaded with my best friend and all-around handler.

I wasn’t stupid; I knew my brand of crazy was the kind that should be locked away and the key melted so the gate would never be opened. Thanks to the rich son of bitch that was my best friend, I was a free man. Free to wreak havoc upon the world and carve into beautiful flesh.

“And we will see her at school. She can wait,” Lux said, glancing at his watch.

I knew I couldn’t persuade him. He hated being late for anything. It might have everything to do with how he grew up, or he had a stick up his ass. Lux refused to let me look no matter how much I tried.

“What if someone gets to her before I do?” We hadn’t claimed dibs. The thought of such a rare blood type walking away from me made my skin itch.

Lux huffed out a breath. Rem chuckled and lit a black cigarette, the bud burning bright red as she inhaled the smoke. “Samson, are you pulling his leg? You know how seriously he takes this shit.”

Samson didn’t even bat an eye. With us, he wasn’t forced to pretend. He could be his true self even if his type of crazy sometimes creeped me out.

“No, she is truly AB negative. She gets the flu shot every year, there was no primary doctor, but she’s been going to the same low-budget clinic since she was five. She is five foot seven, green eyes, her measurements are—”

I moved fast and turned to slap my hand over Samson’s mouth. “Don’t ruin my fun.”

Samson’s green-blue eyes flicked over to me as he pried my hand off his mouth. His gaze told me of my sweet death.

“Promise me,” I whispered on a hopeful breath for Samson to hear alone.

“Why’d you stop him? I want to know,” Rem said, blowing out a lazy tendril of smoke.

Lux glanced between us, his gaze full of boredom, but I knew he was listening intently. His eyes on the new girl had been too sharp. His interest had been peaked as well. Unlike the rest of us, Lux played it off.

“Because I want to play with her, and if Samson gives me all the answers, then it takes away the fun,” I argued.

Rem chuckled. “Whatever you say. You two are just a ball of crazy.”

As if she was one to talk. Rem was wild; she might not have a few screws missing like Samson and me, but she was just as bloodthirsty. Always ready to prove herself, that she was just as big and bad as any man. Which she was. I’d seen it personally. Rem made a grown man cry and beg for mercy. She hadn’t given it to him, but from that day on, I knew I liked Rem just as much as Samson and Lux. They were family, and she was erased from my mind as a blood bag. It was an extremely hard process. Only five people weren’t meat sacks waiting to be split open in my life. The three next to me, my niece Lucy, and my kindergarten teacher Mrs. Gulf.
