“Oh.” She looked confused. “Did you not want him to?”
He shook his head. “I figured he’d tell them. I just wasn’t expecting them to blow up my phone.”
Ali bit her bottom lip. “Are they upset?”
“I don’t think so. I didn’t read all the messages. But they’d like to meet you.”
She lowered her gaze to her lap, lacing her fingers together in front of her.
He placed his hand over hers and squeezed. “Do you not want to meet them?”
“No, I do. I just...when?”
Bringing one of her hands into his lap, Daniel rubbed this thumb over the pad of her palm. “Soon.” Then he brought their hands up so he could kiss the tips of her fingers. “I’m not going to worry about it tonight, though. I’ll call them in the morning, and we can set something up.”
She nodded and sank back into her seat to watch the scenery go by.
He focused on the road, trying to push the message from Bradley out of his mind.
CHAPTER21
Ali wasn’tsure she could move. Her body felt well used. When they’d gotten home the night before, Daniel had led her into the shower and proceeded to wash her. By the time he was finished, she was hot and bothered again and needing him.
She rubbed her thighs together, remembering how she’d asked if she could have his cock inside her again. He’d dried her off, carried her into his bedroom, and spread her out on his bed. She could still remember the look in his eyes as he’d given her what she’d asked for, holding her gaze as he’d sunk deep inside.
Sighing, she forced her eyes open and turned to look at his side of the bed. Empty as always. Daniel was an early riser, even on days he didn’t need to go to work.
It was Sunday and they had no plans. Daniel had the pool serviced earlier in the week, so it was ready for the season. Maybe they could do a little skinny dipping. She grinned at the thought.
Unfortunately, her stomach decided it was more concerned about food than her sexual fantasies. She hadn’t eaten anything since their late lunch the day before and she was starving.
Throwing off the covers, she headed into the bathroom to take care of business. When she walked back into his bedroom a few minutes later, she’d half expected him to be there.
He wasn’t.
Figuring he was either working out or making them breakfast, Ali threw on her robe and headed for the kitchen. Even if he wasn’t there, she could start breakfast. He’d come find her when he was finished with whatever he was doing.
But as she neared the kitchen, she heard voices. At first, she thought Daniel was talking to someone on the phone, but the other voice was too clear. The words she heard stopped her in her tracks.
“What? I’m not allowed to come visit my dad anymore?”
Dad?
One of Daniel’s kids was at the house, and she was in nothing more than her robe.
Ali didn’t know what to do. Should she go back into Daniel’s room and wait for him to come get her? She could put dirty clothes on. Her jeans would be fine, but her blouse was probably wrinkled beyond saving. When Daniel wanted her out of her clothes, he tossed them on the floor, not caring where they landed.
She could try to get to her room unseen and change, but she wasn’t hopeful. Daniel’s room was at the back of the house. Her room was at the front. And the only way to get to her room from his was to go through the kitchen.
There was also the option of ignoring the fact he had company and make her way into the kitchen as she had planned? It wasn’t as if they were teenagers sneaking around.
This was a first for her. She’d never been in a position of meeting a boyfriend’s children, let alone the potential of meeting them wearing nothing but a thin layer of silk.
Her stomach growled again, not caring about her awkward dilemma. She looked behind her to his room, and then toward the hallway that led to her bedroom.
The voices became more muffled, sounding as if they were moving away from her. She bit the inside of her cheek. If they were in the living room, maybe she could make it. She’d have to be fast and quiet.
She peeked around the corner, careful not to make a sound. Scanning the kitchen, she confirmed it was empty. Then, she made a run for it.
