“Alittle tothe right,” I directed as I held our four-month-old, Otis Christopher, on my hip. He was named for Scooby’s brother and my father, and he was the absolute most perfect baby on the planet.

“Twinkles, I just went to the left,” Scooby pointed out, still up on the ten-foot ladder, hanging a fourth of July banner at the top of our kitchen cabinet.

We’d purchased a home close to Scooby’s mom in Colorado Springs. It was large with four bedrooms, plus a bonus room, office, and basement. It had a huge kitchen and great room and I loved it.

“I know, split the difference.”

“How’s that?” he asked, trying to use his ‘patient’ voice.

“It’s perfect,” I said, bouncing Otis gently. “Isn’t it, baby?”

Otis gurgled and smiled, and I couldn’t stop a laugh.

“Bubba agrees.”

Scooby smiled down from the ladder, his glasses sliding down his nose. “He’s just hungry.”

“No, he’s agreeing with me,” I argued.

“Baby, he’s starin’ at your tits.”

I glanced at our baby and sure enough, he was.

“Good lord, child, you just ate.” I sat in one of the kitchen chairs and fed him.

“Are we done?” Scooby asked, climbing down the ladder.

“Um, almost.”

“Rowan, it looks like Uncle Sam threw up in here, what else could possibly be done?”

“I just need the gnomes out in the front.”

“Jesus, the fuckin’ gnomes.”

I grinned. “The gnomes are cute. Especially, the little biker mama and her old man.”

The newest addition to my gnome family were a house warming gift from Violet, but I know they were partially a piss off gift for Scooby.

He rolled his eyes. “Did I mention I was gonna murder Letti in her sleep?”

“She knows me, what can I say?”

He leaned down and kissed me, then Otis. “I’ll do those tomorrow, yeah?”

“Yeah, that’s fine.”

“Come on, let’s get you more comfortable. Everyone’s gonna be here soon.”

We’d done the quickie courthouse wedding but still hadn’t had the wedding celebration. I had never really been well enough to handle a party. I pretty much threw up my entire pregnancy. The anti-nausea pills helped but only for a short period of time. I had to be put on bed rest for the last two months of my pregnancy, so we decided we’d wait until I’d had the baby before we did the party with the big dress.

Of course, then I wanted to wait until I lost some of the baby weight, so Scooby left the decision of the date in my hands, and I was happy with that.

I mean, I had my man, I had my baby, and now I had my family. I had everything I’d ever wanted. A party was just a bonus and something that could definitely wait.

I’d gifted the diner to Monty and bought Dusty a gorgeous little house in Monument close to her kids. She’d decided she wanted to stay working at the diner and Scooby and I made Sunday our day to eat there every week. The club also ate there on a regular basis, especially Gizz who was getting ready to propose to Dusty, although, Scooby had sworn me to secrecy on that.

Tonight Jill and Needles were coming over for dinner and I was pretty sure they were going to announce they were boinking.
