I look at Ryan, another silent plea. Jade has my back, always has, but when she’s drunk, I never know what the hell she’s going to do.
Tessa sits next to me, smiling a big goofy smile that would have been adorable, if I was sure what the hell Jade was going to do.
Ryan stands and whispers in her ear.
“Until I fall asleep?” Jade asks her husband.
“Until you are so spent that you pass out with my head between your—”
“Oh dear God!” Tessa covers her ears.
Jade flings her arms around Ryan’s neck. “Starting now.”
“After I take Tessa home.”
“I can take her home,” I offer.
“I bet you’d like—”
Ryan kisses her quiet. Then he pulls back, crushing her face to his chest as she laughs. “Cool. Lock up when you leave?”
“Will do.” I smile and continue attaching labels.
“I can call Alex, Lucas. You don’t have to.”
“Don’t be silly. We have what? Two boxes left here to do, and then I can take you home. I need to check to make sure Logan’s car is at his friend’s where he’s supposed to be. It’s on the way.”
“You’re checking up on him?” She smiles as she is about to apply a crooked label.
I grab the bottle. “Maybe I should do this.”
She lets go of the bottle and sits back.
We don’t say another word. She hands me the bottles, peels the paper off the back of the label, and then hands it to me to put on.
When we finish, I ask where her coat is, and she stumbles as she stands.
“You drinking a lot these days?”
She rolls her eyes.
“Not judging. I was just wondering because—”
“Fun police.” She giggles, walking past me.
“Oh, no way. I’m a damn party waiting to happen,” I inform her as she puts on her jacket. I quickly look at my phone and see Ashley sent a text. She’s on her way to New Jersey.
“Prove it.” She pokes me playfully in the chest.
“Is that a dare, girl?”
“Double dare.”
“Okay, let’s roll.”

I open the car door for her, and she gets in all giggly and cute as hell.
