I rolled my eyes and shook my head. Calling my brother was shaping out to be a mistake.

“Well, for starters, I knew you three love hounds would forget something as simple as stocking the kitchen before leaving, and I couldn’t let Guy go hungry, so I brought him a bunch of supplies. That’s the why.”

“Oh shit,” Luke said. “Sorry about that. I was supposed to stop at the store, and I ended up running out of time. I forgot to have Ezra let Guy know.”

“It’s fine,”I said. “I didn’t mind doing it. Besides, it felt nice to do something for someone else.”

“Glad to hear that,” he said. “Thank you, sis. I really appreciate you. I’m sure Guy is grateful as well.”

“I know,” I said, smiling to myself.

“So, about the confusing part?” he asked.

I sighed heavily. “The confusing part has less to do with being at the cabin and more to do with a personal conflict.”

“You gotta give me more than that,” he said. “Otherwise, I’m just as lost as you are.”

“Guy invited me to stay for lunch. But by the time I was getting ready to leave, the snow was coming down too hard.”

Luke started laughing.

I scoffed. “What is so funny?”

“The most responsible person I know somehow managed to forget about a blizzard?” he asked, still laughing.

“And?” I asked, voice coming out sharper.

“You must really have the hots for Guy,” he said, still laughing through his words.

I arched an eyebrow. “Laugh it up, bro. Get it out of your system.”

“Sorry! Sorry!” he said. “It’s not every day my sister has a crush.”

“I’m so glad my romantic interests are hilarious,” I grumbled.

“What’s Guy up to right now?” Luke asked after he sobered up from his fight of laughter.

“Gathering wood, apparently,” I said. “Which is actually a good enough segue into my question.”

“Oh boy, here it goes…” he said, dragging out his words. “I’m listening.”

“How noble of you,” I said. “Are you going to be an ass this entire time, or are you going to be helpful?”

He snorted. After taking a few seconds and deep breaths, he said. “I am trying to be helpful. What is your question?”

“Does Guy have a girlfriend?” I asked.

Luke laughed again. “I knew it. You do have a crush on him.”

I frowned. “I’m being serious.”

“You can’t ask the man yourself?” he asked.

“I tried. But his phone keeps blowing up and he keeps refusing to answer the calls and the whole issue is not sitting right with me.”

“The man probably wants to devote his attention to you and not his phone,” Luke said. “And if he told you he doesn’t have a girlfriend, then he doesn’t. Why is his phone even bothering you?”

“I don’t know. I wish I could put my finger on it. And just… could you ask Ezra if he knows?”
