I settled my attention back on Cadence. “Do you like bacon?”

I held up the package of fatty gold at eye level and gave it a little wiggle.

She giggled. “I love bacon.”

I nodded. “Great.”

My phone buzzed again. I took another note of it, mentally reminding myself to check my messages later. I certainly didn’t want to answer it and divide my attention between whoever was calling and Cadence. Whoever was blowing up my phone would have to wait.

I started looking around the rest of the items she brought and noticed a head of lettuce in the fridge that needed to be used up. She had set out some tomatoes still on the vine. My mouth started to water as I clapped my hands together.

“I’ve got it,” I announced. “BLTs.”

She giggled. “Delicious!”

“Oh, just you wait,” I said. “You’ve never had a BLT like mine before.”

“I’ll take your word for it.” She leaned against the counter and watched as I started pulling out everything I needed. “Want some help?”

“Nah.” I waved her away. “This is my treat to you. But you can go warm up by the fire. I’ll bring you a drink in a second.”

Her eyes glittered and her skin practically glowed. “Okay!”

I chuckled as she skipped off to the couch. Her reaction motivated me to work harder at presenting her with a meal that was both simple and extraordinarily delicious.

About an hour later, lunch was long over. And judging by the lull in the conversation, I knew Cadence would be leaving soon. That was until I glanced outside the window and gaped. “Uh…”

The storm had finally hit, and it was going in full force. I stared out the window, trying to catch any familiar shapes through the snow, and was barely able to discern a tree from anything else, the snow was coming down so thick.

“You weren’t planning on leaving any time soon, were you?” I asked.

Cadence followed my gaze. “Oh wow. I probably need to go before the roads are closed.”

“It’s practically whiteout,” I said. “Why don’t you stay here until the storm lets up. Driving in weather that bad is too dangerous.”

Her eyes met mine and a flash of light blinked through them. Her cheeks reddened and I breathed in her arousal. My lungs nearly froze.

Her arousal called to me.

“I can’t. I wish I could, but I really need to go,” she said.

I had to stop her from leaving. Driving through that mess was way too dangerous. But between smelling her arousal and my animal’s reaction to it, I was having a hard enough time keeping myself together.

CADENCE

I was so happy when Guy invited me to stay for lunch. To be honest, there was something about him I couldn’t get enough of. He was exciting and new, and I wanted to spend all my time uncovering all of the mysteries that surrounded him.

This was a new and different experience for me. No one had ever captured my attention so fully.

I was falling for him more and more, and though that unsettled me to a certain extent, I wanted more. But his phone started buzzing and it was almost like he was trying to avoid whoever was calling him.

Even throughout our lunch, the phone continued. And I finally

“Don’t you want to answer that?” I asked.
