Kilven’s jaw looked like it was about to crack, but he finally pushed off the door frame and stalked out of the room. Philit didn’t let me move until the door slammed shut, and then I was able to crawl off the bed. While doing it, I may have taken some liberties to feel Philit’s hard cock press against my core.

I almost expected a similar reaction to when I rejected him, my body recoiling, but instead, tingling pleasure traveled to my stomach and tightened in a delicious way. I didn’t need to touch myself to know I was wet for him. He could just slip right inside of me.

He groaned as I crawled off him and stood up, making sure to torture him a little bit. There was something absolutely hot about knowing how I affected my mates.

I stretched, glancing around and finally getting a really good look at the room. It was definitely luxurious with a large fish tank taking up one wall, complete with weird, colorful fish swimming through the bright coral inside. Vines decorated the room like garlands. The ceiling seemed to go on forever; it was so high up, giving it enough space for even a large, thick tree to fit in here. It sat in the corner with gorgeous red flowers blooming on its bountiful branches and a swing hanging off a thick branch. A lattice framed the window and was covered in vines and flowers. Everything was so nature-inspired that I felt like I probably should have just slept outside.

Getting ready ended up being quick as I pulled on the soft green dress that the Divines tended to wear. Aylia was an expert as she fixed up my mates’ clothes, so they’d fit over their chests and around their wings. The top was the same material as my dress and in the same color. Their pants were a dark brown, looking like they’d barely fit over the dragons’ thick thighs. Aylia had to also do something, so that their tails were free to move around.

“We need to get going,” Aylia said as she practically ushered us out of the room.

“Why the fire?” I asked.

“Everyone is curious,” she admitted, not quite looking at me. “Enough to fill the training grounds and wait for all of you. They want to see for themselves the dragons they’ve heard so many horror stories about.”

“Horror stories about us?” Landers sounded confused. “What the hell did we do?”

“Nothing,” I said, reaching out and resting my hand on his arm to calm him. “But dragons aren’t seen in a good light here. Remember that.”

“Oh?” Landers grabbed my hand and pulled me into his side, wrapping his arm around me. “Are you warning me?”

“If she isn’t, then I will,” Aylia said. “You will be facing victims of dragons here and those who have seen what being mated can do to a Divine. Your mate, Rayna, is an anomaly, not the norm, and many will not take kindly to your presence. Behave or you will give the Fae an excuse to kill you.”

Landers shoved me behind him as he approached Aylia, trying to use his size to intimidate her. “Is that a threat?” he growled out.

I almost expected Aylia to shrivel underneath his alpha-ness, but she only straightened her shoulders and held his gaze. “In fact, yes it is. You are not welcome here, even if you are being allowed to stay. No one wants you in our sanctuary.”

“Rayna wants me here,” Landers said, still moving closer to her, trying to intimidate her further.

Aylia’s gaze met mine briefly before narrowing back onto my mate. “As I said before, Rayna is an anomaly. The rest of us are torn. Some are fascinated by your presence, others are scared, while some are angry. We had to send our most vulnerable to the infirmary to keep them sedated. Once word got to them, they went into a fit, nearly hurting themselves in the process. Respect us, dragon boy.”

Landers looked like he wanted to break her in half.

“Enough, Landers,” I said, grabbing his shoulder and trying to pull him back. He didn’t move right away, making sure we knew he’d only backed off because he wanted to. I sighed and rubbed at the back of my neck. “Just behave while we figure this out.”

“We should just leave this fucked up place,” Landers growled out.

“No,” I snapped at him. “We need answers, and this place is our only option. I refuse to go back to the academy and to the dragon king. He’ll kill us.”

Landers knew I spoke the truth as he moved away from me, putting Philit between us. It hurt to see him physically create that distance, but I forced a smile and looked at Aylia.

“Lead the way.”

She did, still talking about how the others would take to dragons being in their presence. We saw the reaction too as we passed other Divines who could only gape at the dragons. One of them even walked into a wall, as he was too distracted to pay proper attention. There were even gasps and doors slamming as others put as much distance as they could between themselves and the dragons.

We were halfway to the training grounds when a door to the right opened, and Neyil stepped out.

“Good. I caught you in time. Come. We have much to discuss,” he said. Then, Neyil motioned us through the door.

Aylia didn’t say anything as we were forced to leave her there, the guards around Neyil surrounding us. It was clear by the way they glared at the dragons that they’d prefer my mates dead.

The door led through another hallway. Neyil didn’t say anything as he led the way.

‘I almost feel like I’m a kid again, getting into trouble,’ Landers sent.

‘Got in trouble often?’Zilon asked.

I swore I could hear Landers laughing even though he didn’t actually make a sound. ‘Probably a little too much.’
