I knew what I had to do. As soon as I was back home, I’d have Jazz draw up the necessary papers to give complete control of my shares to Ashley. If I was lucky, she’d allow me to stay on as a consultant or employee.

“Well. I should probably call Margot and see if she needs anything. She was pretty shaken up.”

“I can’t imagine being shot at!” She let out a laugh in disbelief. “I heard you were quite the hero.”

“She’s exaggerating.”

“Psh. But I’ll let you go. Malcolm just got here with dinner. Call me if you need anything.”

“You got it, Boss.”

“Oh! I like that. You should call me boss,” she said, away from the phone.

Malcolm’s deep voice rumbled through the phone, “We could try that. Or you could—”

“Gotta go!” Ashley squeaked and hung up abruptly.

Smiling, I got out my laptop and got to work.

“I’ll pick you up at seven?”

“Yep. Mom said we could stay for dinner if we want.”

Luca yawned, shaking his head. “After the week we had and the flight, I’m worn out. Let’s pick something up on the way home.”

I gasped, a hand covering my chest. “Why, are you suggesting we hit a drive-thru, Chef Moretti?”

He let out a tired laugh, his head resting on the seat. “No. I’ll call in our order at Blue Waves. Sushi sound good?”

“Sure.” Pete pulled up to my parents' house. “You go rest. Ruling the world can wait.” I pecked his lips a few times.

“Fine.” He yawned again. “Have fun with your dad.”

I smiled. “See ya, Pete.”

“Miss Sasha.”

“Ah! So close.” I winked and slid out of the town car.

When I walked into the house, it was quiet. “Dad?”

“In here!”

I followed his voice to the kitchen, where he was eating a sandwich over the sink. “I’m guessing Mom isn’t home.” I lifted a brow.

He chuckled and shoved the last bite into his mouth.

“You didn’t have to rush on my account.”

Chewing quickly, he brushed his hands together, then chugged a glass of water. “Our reservation’s for four. If we’re late, Doug will give the slot away. He’s a real prick.”

“Ah. Good ole Doug. So, he’s still hung up over mom.” I wiggled my eyebrows at him.

Dad scoffed, puffing up. “Who wouldn’t be? There’s only one Maggie Mitchell.” He emphasized Mitchell as if I needed to be reminded that she washiswife.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. You love mom. She’s the best. I’m going to go clean up a little, and then we can go.”
