“Yes.”

“It was fine. I had to take a drive out of town, but other than that, pretty uneventful.”

“Where’d you go?” I went to the sink to refill my water.

“Not here.”

“Cool. Good story.”

“We don’t do stories, babe.”

“You’re a babe guy?”

“If the babe fits.”

I scoffed and headed to my bedroom for a pair of fresh panties. Frankie followed me as far as the living room.

“I’ll be back down in a bit.”

No answer from Frankie, because why would he answer? Better to let me talk to myself like a loser.

Closing the bedroom door behind me, I stripped out of my clothes and quickly cleaned myself up. In no time, I was sitting comfortably in bed.

After a cleansing breath, I pulled out my laptop and opened my email. As much as Luca leaving bummed me out, I had a lot to do, and taking a day off was going to be a bitch to make up.

As I scrolled through requests from clients and vendors, my phone lit up next to me with the name Malcolm.

“Hello?”

“Sasha?”

“Yes.”

Never one to doddle, Malcolm got straight to the point. “My brother-in-law has been following you.”

NINE

The stars aligned, and Frankie went outside right as Malcolm showed up at the office.

“Talk fast. I don’t know how long he’ll be gone.”

“Someone is paying to have you followed.” He handed me a manilla folder. “I’m still digging into who because apparently, Shane took cash and an alias.”

I flipped through the pictures and notes, my hands clammy as I lifted a picture of Luca and me at the Art Museum the day before. “Has he handed over any information yet?”

“No. I came across this file on you before he delivered it.”

“That’s good, right?”

Malcolm pursed his lips. “Not sure. It worries me someone hired a PI so closely related to you. Either they trusted Shane to get the inside scoop without tipping you off, or they wanted you to know they were watching.”

“Yeah, that’s not good.”

“You need to tell Luca.”

“I will.”

He flattened his palms on my desk, bending his ridiculously tall frame to bring us eye to eye. “I mean it. No rogue shit this time.”
