“No. I just think we should keep our distance.”

“Right.” He thumbed his nose, glancing over at Frankie and then back at me. “I’m the threat.”

“I didn’t say that.”

“No, but you’re looking at me like I’m the enemy.”

“Sasha?” The barista slid a carrier with two coffees over and smiled before walking back to the register.

“I should go.”

“Sasha, wait.” Dimitri caught my elbow, his fingers barely touching me. “Call me if you need anything. If you need an out.”

Taking a deep breath, I shook my head, looking him dead in the eye to make sure there was no confusion. “I don’t need an out. I’m where I want to be.”

Undeterred, he stepped closer, his coat grazing my side. “I don’t want you to get hurt.”

“Luca would never let that happen.”

“He’s not God, Sasha.” Dimitri leaned down so he could whisper, “My family isn’t the only threat.”

I turned my head so my mouth was buried behind my hair. “What do you mean?”

“We need to get out of here, Sasha. Get you away from Moretti and then get us both out of the country.”

Frowning, I peeked up at him, our noses brushing. “What about Daphne?”

“Fuck Daphne.”

“This looks cozy.” Frankie’s bored voice startled me, and I jumped back into him, the coffees flying into Dimitri’s chest.

“Fuck!” He wiped down his coat with a leather-gloved hand, glaring at Frankie.

“Whoops.” Frankie turned me toward him. “We should probably get to the office.” He didn’t waste a second considering Dimitri as he ushered me to the door.

“Remember what I said, Sasha!” Dimitri yelled, but I kept walking.

Frankie held open the passenger door, then went around the hood and got in the driver’s side. The entire time, Dimitri watched us through the huge windows of the coffee shop, and I tried to work out what the hell had just happened.

“A piece of advice?” Frankie said, his tone dry.

“Why not?”

“Cut whatever you have with Chronis off. Now.”

He didn’t wait for me to respond before he turned on the radio and pulled away from the curb. The ride to the office was a blur of nerves, knowing I’d have to talk to Luca about Dimitri and what he said.

Frankie led me through reception, where Miranda sat chatting with Scott’s assistant Brian.

Even though we’d been in the new office and warehouse space a few months, a thrill worked its way through my body every time I walked into my office that overlooked the floor where Scott and Axel worked.

“You going back downstairs, or?” I let the question hang as I tossed my coat on the rack and got situated at my desk.

“I think I’ll hang out in here. I don’t need that girl talking to me.”

“You don’t like Miranda?”

Frankie looked up from his phone and dead-eyed me. Laughing, I left him on the couch to go find Ashley.
