Panting, Luca gently pulled out. He walked into the kitchen, presumably to toss the condom.

Left alone, I clutched the table, fingers aching, legs spread wide. Failing to muster up the energy to sit up, I stayed splayed across the table when Luca strolled back into the room.

“Damn, now that’s the best buffet I’ve ever seen.”

My head flopped in his direction. “I think I’m broken.”

He laughed and helped me sit up. “Well, perk up Mitchell. I’m not done with you yet.”

Sitting buck naked on his dining room table, watching his bare ass tidy up the room, I knew for a fact I wasn’t even close to done with him.

LUCA:I can’t tomorrow night. What does your Saturday look like?

SASHA:Uh. I’m free after 8.

LUCA:Not ideal, but I’ll make it work.

“Damn.”

“What’s up?”

I pulled my eyes from the disappointing text and looked at Ashley inhaling pork fried rice. We’d been working on a contractor issue for most of the morning, so we treated ourselves to a sodium fest.

“Just trying to find time to actually see Luca. Outside of that quick lunch last Wednesday, I haven’t seen him in two weeks. I thought after finally sleeping together in the parameters of a relationship like he wanted, I’d be swimming in orgasms.” I stabbed the takeout box with a fork and dropped my head. “I’m dying.”

Ashswallowed, washing it down with a swig of Coke. “That sucks.”

Chewing the delicious takeout, I waved my fork in the air. “It is what it is. We’re both busy people. I mean, I’m one that canceled dinner on Monday to close the deal with The Armbruster Hotel. I can’t be mad at him for doing the same thing.”

Nodding, Ashley tossed her empty carton in the trash. “Sure, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck.”

“Mm.”

“I think Malcolm and I are coming to your show tonight.”

Taking another bite, I lifted an eyebrow and smiled. Malcolm had been a fixture at our apartmentforthe past two weeks. Was it like that when she lived with Ben?

“Shut it. He has a thing for Jazz, wants me to introduce them.”

Ashley’s eyebrows drew together, and the corners of her mouth dipped. Someone wasn’t happy about theirfriendboning someone else.

“I’ll let you in on a little secret. You have a better chance with Jazz than Malcolm.”

Her frown dropped, and a smirk took its place. “Tonight’s going to be fun.”

“And that’s why you’re my best friend.” I laughed as she skipped out of my office.

The rest of the afternoon was a flurry of paperwork and phone calls that nearly made me late for call time.

Evie rushed into the dressing room and gave me the stink eye before continuing her pre-show speech. “I want to see smooth transitions between acts. And I’m moving Sasha to before thelastgroup number.” There were a few sighs, but Evie kept chugging along. “Now finish getting ready. We go on in thirty!”

The glue kept getting tacky too fast, so the falsies wouldn’t go on straight. “Damn it!” I tossed them down and took a deep breath.

“Relax, Red. You’ve got plenty of time to get gussied up.” Jazz leaned in over my shoulder as she reached for the ruined eyelashes. Her sweet perfume filled my nose, reminding me of the last time we were so close. The smile on her face drew my eyes from her modest cleavage, and I blinked.

“Thanks.”
