“Home?” she murmured.

“Well, back to the penthouse until you’re feeling stronger.”

“Home sounds good.”

Helping her up, I eased her legs around until she was sitting, while she shook off her sleep-induced haze. Her fingers ghosted her lips as she looked up at me, her brows pinched, obviously remembering that I’d just kissed her.

“When we get back, are you going back to work?”

“Do you want me to?” I frowned, wondering what she was alluding to.

“You can’t keep sitting around watching me sleep. I’ll be fine.” Her voice was flat and emotionless.

“We’ll see. First, let’s get you home.”

“I need to get dressed.”

“Kay. Let me help.”

“I can do it, Matt. I’m not an invalid,” she barked.

“Yes, you are and you’re under strict instructions to take it easy, so don’t be a brat, Rogue. Just let me do this.”

“Fine,” she snapped.

I slowly undid the buttons on the top of her new pinkBarbiepajamas Addi and Emmy had brought her, sliding it from her shoulders, exposing her naked breasts and the dressing that adorned her chest and stomach. She hissed out in pain from the slight movement, and I pressed a kiss to the dressing.

Running her fingers through my hair, which was longer than ever, she held my head close to her, sighing, as I kissed it again.

“Matt,” she whispered.

“Later, Rogue. We can talk later, I promise. Let’s get you home first. Bra or no bra?”

“No bra. I don’t think I could take the pressure on my chest.”

“No bra it is.” I slipped a t-shirt over her head before I guided her arms into a zip-up hoodie.

“Can I leave these bottoms on? I’m exhausted already. I can’t face changing them.”

“Anything you want. We’re going to have to go out the front door of the hotel, so put this on.” I pulled a cap down on her head and handed her some sunglasses. “The whole world wants to know you’re okay, so Addi thought it might keep the press happy for a while. There will be lots of security out there, so don’t worry. And I’ll be right there with you.”

“Okay.” She paused, looking up at me through her long, dark lashes, making my cock ache for her. “Matt, when we get back, do you promise we can talk? Everyone keeps telling me I should listen to you and give you a chance to explain about your wife. Plus, I have this awful feeling that I’ve forgotten something important. Did you tell me something before I got shot?”

“No, I promise. I didn’t tell you anything, but yes, when you’re up for it, we can talk.”

“Will it hurt?”

“Hurt you?” I questioned.

“No. Will it hurt you? I don’t want you to hurt, Matt.”

I stroked her face gently, shocked that even though she was in pain, it was me she was worried about.

“It needs to be said. I want to tell you,” I reassured her, before placing a kiss on her forehead.

Dr. Vaughan coughed, interrupting us. “Frankie, nice to see you up. Are you ready to leave us?”

“I think so.”
