Besides amazing food, there were three swimming pools, horseback riding, zip lining, sailing, kayaking, fishing, volleyball, and newly built pickleball courts, just to name a few things.
There were two full-time massage therapists, Andrea and Kara, whom she had occasionally enjoyed massages from herself. She’d even purchased sessions for her parents for their anniversary last year.
All in all, River Camps really was a wonderful place that had it all, except for being kid friendly. Only adults were allowed as guests, something that she, as the main person answering the phone, had heard complaints about over and over.
It was right there all over the brochure and website—an adults-only summer camp experience.
It wasn’t as if there weren’t plenty of places nearby that catered to families. There were tons of them. But, still, people liked to complain.
They had actually had several people try and sneak kids in in the last year. How they expected the kids not to be noticed at the swimming pools or other activities was beyond her.
Thankfully, she hadn’t been the one being yelled at when she’d had to tell them they had to leave. Elle had always taken that bullet for her.
Elle Costas had grown up living at the camp and in a home she still owned in Pelican Point. Her grandfather had owned the elite summer camp for young girls and, after his death, the five friends had inherited the place and turned it into what it was today.
It was just after lunchtime when Damion walked through the front doors. Her entire body responded when she heard his laughter.
He was chatting with Carter, the employee who handled the horses and horseback rides. The man only worked at the camp a few hours each day. He was an actual veterinarian who worked at a local sanctuary in town but since he was friends with the Wildflowers, he’d agreed to help out when he could.
But everyone knew that he absolutely loved working at the camp. She didn’t know why she hadn’t ever had a crush on Carter. The man was a very attractive package. He was not only one of the nicest guys she knew but was damn sexy to boot.
The fact that he was a vet and loved animals just added extra bonus points.
Actually, there were several guys who worked at the camp that she should feel attraction towards. But all of them paled in comparison to Damion, so there was no point in wasting her time. How was it that they hadn’t ever gone on a date? Somehow in her heart, she knew that he was the one. So many times, she’d dreamed of what it would be like to be with him.
On the two dates she’d gone out on in the past year, she’d spent the entire evening comparing the men to him.
Damion laughed at something Carter said, then the men slapped each other on the shoulder and did that bro-bump guys do before parting ways. Carter disappeared into the dining hall, and Damion walked towards her.
CHAPTERTHREE
Damion leaned on the counter and ran his eyes over Jules. She was wearing one of those cotton summer dresses she always wore. The kind that made her look like a summer goddess, a tropical dream. Today’s dress was bright yellow and had green flowers all over it. Her long hair was tied in a braid that hung over her shoulder, and she had a white flower tucked just above her ear. She looked every bit Hawaiian, and he found it more appealing than he wanted to think about at the moment.
“So,” he said as he gave her a smile.
“So?” She smiled back at him.
“There’s this couple.” He motioned to the front doors. “They’re about a hundred years old. He’s even in one of those electric chairs. And Carter just caught them having sex on the pathway.”
“Seriously?” She chuckled as she shook her head. “Old people like sex too. I just never knew how much until I started working here. I’ve had my share of…”
“Run-ins?” he suggested. “That’s what everyone calls them.”
“Yes.” She laughed.
Every staff member had their own stories of run-ins. There had been stories of orgies and crazy parties at the pools or in the cabins since the camp opened.
“How many guests am I taking out for the sunset sail tonight?” he asked her.
She glanced at her screen and checked the scheduling app they used. He could have logged into the app on his phone, but then he wouldn’t have had the excuse to talk to her.
“Six couples,” she answered after looking. “Zoey’s going with you tonight.”
“Yeah.” He nodded. “She’s been begging to go out again. I think she loves sailing almost as much as I do. What about you?” Damion asked her, leaning a little more on the counter.
“Me?” she asked, trying to search his eyes.
“What sort of hobbies or things do you love?” He had learned a lot about her over the years but felt as if he was still missing things.
