Adam snorted. “Don’t be ridiculous.” He held Harrison out to Josie like he’d suddenly developed an infectious disease. “Fun uncle will be as far as I go.”

“Fun?” Grayson chuckled. “You may need to work on that, then.”

Adam crossed his arms. “I know how to have fun.”

Josie, Grayson, and I all laughed in unison.

“See, even Cassidy thinks you have a stick up your ass,” Grayson said. “And she’s only known you five minutes.”

My mouth snapped shut. Grayson had thrown me to the wolves.

Adam’s tapered gaze diverted to mine. “I seem to remember having quite a lot of fun some weeks back.”

“I’m talking about your All Work, No Play policy,” Grayson grumbled. “Not the streams of woman in and out of your bed.”

My stomach dropped with my eyes. How many women had he slept with since me? “I should head back to my room.” I brushed fuzz off my jeans before meeting Grayson’s and Josie’s smiles. “I’m glad you got to spend some quality time together tonight.”

“Thanks so much, Cassidy. You’ve gone above and beyond, and Grayson and I really appreciate it.”

“Anytime.” I offered Josie a small smile. “Harrison was no problem at all.”

Adam’s eyes bulged.

“Goodnight, guys,” I uttered on my way out.

“Night,” Josie and Grayson said while Adam mumbled something like it.

Once the library door closed behind me, I raced down the hall and into my bedroom, needing to distance myself from Adam. How could he not be a player? He was a gorgeous billionaire, for fuck’s sake. He could have anyone he wanted—or all of them, apparently.

After a quick shower, I threw on my pajamas and climbed into bed, hoping sleep would push away the unsettled feeling in my stomach. I was just another woman who had fallen for his charm, then into his bed, and I was ashamed of myself for being so careless. God knew how many women he’d slept with.

As I lay, staring at the ceiling, I was startled by a quiet knock on the door.

“You asleep?” Adam’s voice slipped through the crack with the light from the hallway.

I wanted to keep quiet, but the pull of his voice was too powerful. Before I could scorn myself for having no self-restraint, I slid on my silk robe and opened the door. “What’s up, Adam?”

“You forgot your book,” he said, holding out the novel I’d left behind.

“Oh.” I tried to take it, but he moved it out of reach. “Is this what you like?”

I stared at the sensual book cover, then into his intense blue eyes. “You read it?”

“A few pages.” The corners of his mouth lifted.

I planted my hands on my hips. “It has a great storyline.”

“I bet it does.” He flipped the book over to read the blurb. “No longer sweet and innocent after being ravished by billionaire, Alex Walker, Sophie yearns fo—”

I snatched the book out of his hand. “Was there anything else?”

Adam rested his arm on the door jamb and leaned closer. “If you ever want to re-enact any of those scenes, I’ll happil—”

“Go to bed, Adam,” I said, stepping away from the carnal energy pouring off him.

“I’d prefer yours.”

“Adam…” I fought the innate urge to give myself to him.
