“Oh…” Josie blinked rapidly. “Are you sure?”

“Of course. It’s probably a little wind.”

Adam sniggered under his breath. “Takes after his father.”

Josie and I rolled our eyes in unison while Grayson threw an olive at his brother.

“Seriously, eat.” I bundled Harrison up into my arms. “You need your calories.”

Josie and Grayson proceeded to argue about who was on night duty, while I wandered around the room, tapping Harrison’s back. Once a small pocket of wind escaped his mouth, I placed him back into the bassinet and watched his eyelids fall. There was nothing like the face of a sleeping baby. So beautifully innocent.

When I lifted my gaze, I discovered Adam observing me, and my heartbeat accelerated. Had I given myself away? Did I look too maternal? Too experienced with children? Guilt churned within as I returned to my seat, striving for nonchalance as I nibbled the last piece of pizza Adam had left aside for me.

If he found out I had a child, he’d surely tell his parents or, worse, think I was an unfit mother. Why his opinion of me mattered, I had no idea, but I hadn’t come this far to lose my job now.

“Do you do nannying as well?” Grayson asked, donning a charming grin.

Josie punched his arm. “There is no need for a nanny. We can do this, Gray.”

“Yeah, I know…but it’s been two months…”

Adam frowned. “And?”

I pressed my lips together, trying not to laugh.

“Gray, can we not talk about our sex life in front of strangers—or worse, your brother?!”

Adam snorted. “Oh, man…”

“I’d like to see you go eight weeks without it.”

Adam’s gaze caught mine, and I sucked in my breath. “It’s not that difficult.” He turned back to his brother. “You just need better reading material.”

Pfft. As if he’d gone without sex for that long. A man like Adam couldn’t go a day.

“I don’t need to succumb to porn.”

“I didn’t say porn…” The corners of his lips twitched. “There’re better things.”

“Fuck, man. I don’t want to know what you’re into these days—or who.” He slumped into the chair and pondered his wife adoringly. “But seriously, Jos. When are we going to have any alone time?”

“Why don’t you guys go on a date tomorrow night?” I said without hesitation. “I can look after Harrison.”

Grayson’s eyes lit up. “Yes!”

Josie grimaced, clearly torn between her motherly duties and husband. I understood her guilt.

“I can help,” Adam spoke up out of nowhere.

All heads spun to him.

“What?” Josie let out a strained laugh.

Adam shrugged. “I haven’t spent much time with the little guy, so why not?”

Grayson gaped. “Then it’s a done deal.”

“As long as Cassidy is supervising,” Josie added quickly.
