Scott chuckled. “Well, that’s clearly optional,” he said, rocking their stroller from side to side as he spied our drenched clothes.
Josie appeared with her camera. “Please tell me you’re decent under there. I’m not photoshopping that shit out.”
“And I thought I was the reckless sister,” Amy called out from the comfort of Reed’s back. She’d been dancing all night, and her feet had clearly had enough.
Tash sniggered. “I think Cass is giving you a run for your money, Ames.”
“Speaking of races…” Grayson crossed his arms. “You two still need a tie-breaker.”
My gaze snapped to Cassidy, then her stomach. “Definitely not.”
Finn squealed. “Yes, you have to!”
“No.” My eyes pleaded with my wife, but she gave me nothing. “I’m not racing you, not in your condition.”
“What condition?” Tash narrowed her eyes.
Cassidy chewed her bottom lip as she peered up at her best friend. “I’m…um…”
“She’s been drinking!” Amy interjected, climbing off Reed to dip her feet in the pool.
“Then, I’ll go as tribute.” Finn jumped out of the pool. “Come on, Dad!”
My breath caught while my heart almost burst with happiness. The eleven-year-old almost brought me to my knees with one word. “Fine.” I pretended not to notice. “What do I get if I win?”
“Your balls back!” Josie shouted, and everyone laughed.
I narrowed my eyes at my sister-in-law as I climbed out of the pool. “Ha-ha.”
“I’ll return your Laker’s sweatshirt,” Cassidy said with a grin.
I pursed my lips as I panned my gaze from my wife to my son. “And what do you want?”
“Easy!” He smiled. “A baby brother or sister.”
Everyone cackled again.
“I’d pay to see that,” Grayson said, checking the baby monitor for the fifth time.
My gaze panned to Cassidy’s twinkling eyes, and with her wink, the decision was made. “It’s a deal.” I moved to the edge of the pool.
Finn’s eyes enlarged as he turned to the water. “Okay, then…”
As Grayson yelled go, Finn dove into the water flawlessly, while I hung back.
“What are you doing?” my brother hissed, motioning for me to go.
With a shrug, I dove in and pelted through the water. As Finn’s arm reached out for the finish line, I pulled up next to Cassidy to watch our boy win.
I bumped her side. “Everyone’s going to know.”
She wrapped her arms around my waist. “I don’t care.”
Our family and friends grew silent as Finn’s head bobbed out of the water.
“Did I win?” he asked, panning his gaze around the confused faces.
My face broke into a smile as Cassidy nodded. “You sure did.”
