“I’ll pick up Finn first thing in the morning.” With a quick peck to her cheek, I ran out of the house before her warnings permeated my confidence.

There was no privacy screen in Adam’s car, so we had no choice but to ride in silence. Our hands laid between us, interlaced, while we exchanged heated glances. The air grew thick with want, so much so that the driver wound down his window in the middle of winter.

Once we arrived at the beach house, Adam took his coat off my shoulders and hung it up in the hallway closet.

I immediately wrapped my arms around my waist as I wandered into the living room.

“Are you cold?” he asked, following closely. “Because I can turn up the heat.”

I turned to find his eyes plastered to my ass and smiled. “I have no doubt.”

His hands ran down my arms. “But you’re shivering.”

“I guess I’m a little nervous.”

His forehead crumpled. “Why?”

“Because being here with you…like this. I feel…exposed.”

“I don’t understand.”

“The night at the bar…that wasn’t me. And the incident in the pool…I don’t even know who that girl was.” I grimaced. “I’m not experienced at this, and I have no idea what I’m doing.” I closed my eyes and sighed. “I’m a goddamn nun compared to the girls you’re used to.”

“The girls I’ve been with have been shallow, self-centered socialites. There’s no comparison when it comes to you.” He tucked a wave behind my ear before tracing his finger down my neck. “Your soul is drenched with beauty, your heart is full of kindness, and when I’m around you, fuck, I get nervous about screwing the whole thing up.”

A small smile played on my lips. “Adam Harlow doesn’t get nervous.”

He licked his bottom lip as he gazed around the house. “I’ve never brought a woman back here before.”

“Really?”

“And I never planned to either.”

“Then, why am I here?” I asked, through a conflicting mixture of insecurity and anticipation.

My body liquified as he grasped the sides of my face. “Because I didn’t plan for you, Cassidy Ryan.” He pressed his forehead to mine to seemingly catch his breath before angling my mouth to his. “And now I have to fuck you on every surface.”

He devoured my lips as he brought our bodies closer. The intensity of his kiss was incomparable to the others, and the others were incredible. His soul ignited with every caress and consumed me whole. My mind, my body, and my once safeguarded spirit.

A moan escaped my lips as he lifted me up and back-stepped to the kitchen. Holding me in his right arm with my legs wrapped around his torso, he opened the fridge and rummaged through it until he pulled out a bottle of champagne.

“Thirsty?” I giggled as he placed the cold bottle between us.

“You have no idea,” he uttered, marching me up the dark hallway.

He kicked open his bedroom door before nuzzling his face into my neck.

My head fell back in elation, offering an upside-down view of his excessively large bedroom. “Wow, this is nice.”

Adam’s kisses trailed down to my collarbone as he placed the bottle on his desk. “Thisis fucking nice.” He tore his mouth away to admire my cleavage. “You look so fucking hot in that dress.”

“Even if it’s not your favorite color?”

He lifted his gaze as he placed me on my feet. “Your irises give me that pleasure every day.”

I bashfully looked away, endeavoring to hide my burning cheeks. “You have a beautiful view,” I said, staring out at the glistening waves pounding into the shore.
