“Cassidy! Are you crushing on your boss?”

I slumped into the couch. “He’s not my boss…technically.”

Tash placed her cup on the coffee table and inched forward, glancing over at the closed door of her son’s room. “So, has anything happened between you two?”

My stomach roiled as I stared at the sister of my late husband. “I’m not saying another word about this.”

“Cassidy, come on. You deserve a little fun after everything you’ve been through.”

“But talking to you now…it feels so…” I lowered my gaze when I couldn’t find the words.

“It’s been four years. My brother wouldn’t want you to be alone for the rest of your life.”

“I know.” I blinked back tears. “But I’m not ready yet. Maybe once I’m back in LA, and Finn and I are settled, I’ll put myself out there. I might even let you set me up with that guy you’ve been telling me about.”

“And what about Mr. McFancypants?”

I scoffed. “Oh, it couldn’t possibly work out.”

“Why not?”

“He’s…” I sighed. “Not the marrying kind. And his lifestyle doesn’t leave much room for family.”

Her gaze softened, knowing how important that was for me. “How is he with Finn?”

My entire body warmed. “He’s great. Finn adores him.”

“He seems to be making time for you tonight. A fucking Lakers game?! Tristan lost his mind when Finn asked him.”

“Are you sure it’s okay?”

“Are you kidding? Do you know how much those tickets are worth?”

“I’m aware.”

Tristan and Finn burst out of the bedroom, already dressed in their Lakers gear.

“And Adam said we can get all the snacks we want,” Finn said, following Tristan outside while tossing a basketball from one hand to the other.

Tash’s gaze floated to mine. “Adam?”

I zipped my lips. “Not another word.”

“So, when are you flying back to New York?” Tash asked as she applied a little makeup to my face while we waited for Adam’s car to collect us.

“In a couple of days.”

Her eyes expanded. “So, you’ll be here for New Year’s Eve?”

I shrugged. “I guess so.” Everything happened so quick I hadn’t noticed the date.

“We’re throwing a party, and you have to come! Bryce is going to barbecue, and Tristan would love for Finn to stay over.”

A sense of normalcy rolled over me. “That sounds great.” Our families used to have so much fun together.

“You can bringAdamif you want…”

I emitted a nervous laugh. “Oh, I don’t think backyard parties are his thing.”
