His eyes grew dark. “Which was?”

“I said yes.”

“Predictable.”

“At least he’s man enough to ask me on a date.”

His eyes froze over with his expression. “I never said I wanted to date you.”

“Who’s predicable now?” I uttered, ignoring the ache in my chest.

“Don’t forget your purpose here, Cassidy.”

“I’m here to support Liam.” I scowled. “Not be your little play toy that you can pick up and discard anytime you feel like it. You may be used to treating women like that, but I’ve had the pleasure of knowing how a real man should behave…and you’re nowhere near his league.”

“And Marc is a fucking knight in shining armor, is he?”

“Maybe.” I shrugged. “I guess I’ll find out Friday night.”

Adam’s jaw pulsed as we stood in the hallway, staring at each other in a silent stand-off.

“Everything okay, here?” Nora asked, appearing behind us.

“Yes. Adam was just leaving.” I broke my glare to find Nora eyeballing me.

“Well, have a safe flight, Adam. Cassidy, can you help me out with something?”

“Of course.” I dropped my gaze as I moved toward her.

Moments later, Adam’s door slammed closed, and Nora and I flinched.

“What is going on between you two? I can’t tell if he wants to murder you or throw you over his shoulder and take you to bed.”

“Who knows what’s going on in that head of his?”

“Can’t you feel what he’s feeling?”

“That’s the problem. He has so much bottled up, I can’t decipher anything.”

“I’m no empath, but it’s pretty clear he has a thing for you.”

I grumbled. “He has a thing for torturing me.”

“From the way he was looking at you in that dress, I’d say you were torturing him.”

“Hardly.” I scoffed. “The man is made of stone.”

“Oh, there must a heart in there somewhere. He wouldn’t be so close to his grandfather if there wasn’t.”

“That’s true…” I mused. “But how could you not love Liam?”

Nora smiled, but there was sadness behind it. “Liam has his flaws, too.”

“Maybe so, but he has a good soul. I can feel it. Adam’s persistently on the edge of darkness and light, and I fear, once Liam’s gone…he’ll become the one thing he despises.”

“And what’s that?”

“His father.”
