“Finally,” Adam mumbled under his breath.

With a quick scowl his way, I turned back to the handsome man strolling toward us. “Marc. Hi,” I greeted with a warm smile.

His eyes brightened at the sight of my dress. “Cassidy. Looking beautiful as always.”

“Inside and out,” Liam added, raising his eyebrows at Adam.

Marc’s smile faded when he followed his gaze. “Good to see you, Adam.” He reached out to shake his hand.

Adam grasped his as he stood. “Let’s see how the old man’s doing, shall we?”

“Of course,” Marc said, throwing another glimpse my way.

After the doctor completed his check-up and adjusted Liam’s medication, he turned to me with a grin. “You’re truly working wonders here, Cassidy.”

“Well, it helps having a great doctor,” I replied, curling my hair behind my ear.

Adam’s groan only accelerated my game plan.

“Marc, would you mind having a private word with me in the hallway?”

“Not at all,” he said, following me outside.

Adam glared at the doctor until I closed the door behind us.

“Is everything okay?” Marc asked, naturally concerned with the added level of privacy.

“Yes, everything is fine. I, um…” I cleared my throat. “I wanted to change my answer.”

He frowned, completely lost in the conversation.

“To your dinner invitation.”

“Really?” His smile broadened. “Are you sure?”

I nodded. “As long as Liam is stable, then I really can’t see any reason why I can’t have a little bit of fun.”

“Would Friday night work for you? I have to get back to the city Saturday, and I’d rather not wait another week.”

My heart fluttered at his urgency. “That sounds perfect, but I can’t go too far from here.”

“Of course. I know a place close by. You’ll love it. I’ll pick you up at seven.”

I grinned. Mission accomplished. “Great.”

As we walked back into the room, smiling like school children, Marc returned to Liam’s bedside. “Well, I’ll see you in a few days, Liam. I’m sure Cassidy and Nora will take good care of you until then.”

Liam grinned my way. “That they will.”

After their goodbyes, Marc offered me a bashful smile on his way out.

“What was that about?” Adam asked, trailing me into the hall.

“What was what about?”

My nonchalance infuriated him. “That look. What did you talk about before? In the hallway?”

“Marc asked me out last week, and I told him I had to think about it. Today I gave him an answer.”
