And also to keep her in his life.
If she learned what he brought into Half Moon Key, she was probably going to hate him forever. She might decide to walk away and never speak to him again.
He wouldn’t survive it.
Nora was all but his mate, for fuck’s sake, and if he was half honest with himself, he was in love with her already.
Oh!His lion roared loudly, the sound echoing through his mind.
Whatever the animal wanted to say was cut off by Mason calling out, “You okay, there?”
So brusquely pulled from his thoughts of Nora at both his lion and Mason’s interruption didn’t do anything for his souring mood.
“I’m fine,” Jack answered after a too-long pause. “You? How are the wedding plans coming?”
Though Mason was the one getting married, it was Cohen who hissed out an annoyed breath at the question. Jack arched a brow at the sheriff. “Areyouokay, Cohen?”
The man grumbled something under his breath, but Jack wasn’t able to hear it over Mason’s answers. “The wedding plans are going really well. If only Lila and I had picked a better pair to help us.” He gave his brother a scowling stare, but Cohen wasn’t bothered by it in the least.
“What do you mean?” Jack frowned, not wanting his bad mood and Cohen’s usual grumpy demeanor to clash.
“Well,” Mason started. “He is my best man, as you know.”
“And his mortal enemy Alana Wixx is the maid of honor,” Parker added.
“I know all this,” Jack said. “So what’s the problem? You know going in it was going to be difficult with those two.”
“We did,” Mason admitted. “But we also hoped that they would have some kind of truce between them or something.”
“No such luck,” Cohen cut in. “That woman is impossible to reason with.”
“For that to be true, you would actually have to be reasonable in return.” Parker laughed. “And we all know that you, pal, are not an easygoing man.”
“Alana isn’t easygoing either,” he accused like a child.
“See what I mean?” Mason sighed in exasperation.
“What’s the latest damage?” Parker asked, clearly more on the uptake since he hadn’t spent the last three days lost in Nora Ledger’s love.
“It’s a whole thing. They fired the only DJ that Lila and I liked.” Mason continued to list all of the things Cohen and Alana had ruined with their bickering, but Jack barely heard.
He was too busy trying to catch a fish so he could ditch the men and go back to his Nora.
“Did you hear me?” Mason asked, splashing him with water.
Jack shook his head. “Huh?”
Parker laughed. “He’s been trying to get your attention for the last minute. You are clearly not with us anymore.”
“If you ever were,” Mason shook his head. “I get it. When I first met Lila, I was like that, too. Still am, if I’m honest. It helps that we live together and work together.”
“Right there with you. Jade and I are always planning stuff for the town, but mostly, it’s because we just love spending time together getting stuff done.”
“You two make a good team with your ladies,” Jack commented.Just like Nora and me.
Exactly, his lion.I need to…
“I know, right?” Parker nodded, pleased with his love life … and his life in general. “And this last scavenger hunt event is going to be the best one yet.”
