It came from very far, very deep. It made her breath catch and her eyes close. She gripped his shoulders tightly, meeting his gestures with her own.

“Oh, Jack,” she moaned. “Jack, my darling.” He felt so good, filling her completely.

Nora had heard sex could be a very private and intimate experience, and now she understood. She was linked to this man forever. She would remember this moment forever, and she never wanted it to end. She wanted to stay anchored to him for life. He was the missing part of her. She held on to him with all of her might as her orgasm crashed against the love she felt heightening the pleasure coursing through her veins.

“Nora,” Jack groaned. “My Nora, my love. You feel so good.”

He continued to thrust long enough for another release to build inside of her, and this time when she went over the edge, he was right there with her, spilling his release deep inside. She held on to him until her breathing recovered and her heart began to beat at a more normal pace.

Jack kissed her temple, her forehead, and her cheek. “And?” his eyes were blurred with satiated lust, his face as flushed as his. “Are you okay?”

Nora giggled and nodded. “I’m fine.”

“I didn’t hurt you?”

“Hell, no. It was perfect, Jack. Really.” She kissed him, cupping that handsome face of his in her palms. “Perfect.”

He grinned slyly. “Perfect, huh? Careful, love. Hearing you call my sexual skills perfect could mean trouble for you.”

“So long as we get to do that again.” She sighed happily.

Jack quickly cleaned them off before taking her into his arms, wrapped up together on the couch. “I guess I could’ve been a bit more of a gentleman and taken you to the bed.”

“Are you kidding me? I lost my V-card in front of a roaring fire on a sofa. I’m pretty sure that is the best first-time story ever.”

He chuckled. “If you say so.”

“I do.” She laid her head against his chest, listening to his heart. Jack might have been who she wanted her whole adult life, but he was turning out to also be the man she needed.

Who would have thought a silly crush could turn into something so real? She pressed a kiss over his heart and told the thumping organ she was in love, but she didn’t dare speak the words out loud just yet.

There was time for that.

SEVENTEEN

JACK

Three days passed in a flash. Jack couldn’t remember the last time he went to work or the last time Nora left his place. Since their first night together, neither of them was too keen on being apart, but if Nora didn’t show up for her next shift at the ice cream parlor, her family was going to send out a search party.

“Are you sure you need to go?” he growled, pinning his woman down on the bed.

Nora, nude and only just coming down from their lovemaking, giggled and nipped at his shoulder. “I do need to go. If I don’t, they’re gonna send the sheriff to knock your door down. Besides, you’ve got a business to run, Jack. And a book to finish before your editor has a full-blown panic attack. We’ve both got stuff to do.”

He eyed the bedroom door like it was a snake ready to strike at him. “Well, maybe, but that doesn’t mean I want to actually leave the house to do said stuff. Doing you is so much better, and it’s much more satisfying.”

Nora laughed but pushed against him. He only rolled onto his back because he knew she was right. He was much bigger than his lady, and if he wanted to seduce her into another day of naked times in his cabin, he would’ve been able to, but it was time to rejoin the world, unfortunately.

“Don’t forget that there is the next scavenger hunt event tonight,” Nora called out as she went into the bathroom to shower.

Jack didn’t follow her like he had done many times before because the second he saw Nora naked, there would be no thought of leaving the house again. He slipped on a pair of underwear and made his way into the kitchen to get coffee and breakfast ready for his Nora.

His Nora.

She was completely his, and she had never been anyone else’s.

The thought shouldn’t make him feel like a king, but it did. It wasn’t very dignified or very evolved to feel protective like a caveman, but Jack couldn’t help it. Nora was innocent and trusting, and the world out there was cruel and without pity.

He was just putting piping hot omelets on the kitchen table when a loud knock on the front door ripped through the otherwise quiet morning. From the bathroom, he could hear Nora’s hair dryer going full tilt, no doubt blocking all sounds coming from the rest of the house.
