“I know, tell me about it,” Brittney replies, eyeing my belly with gleaming eyes. “I’m jealous, though. Despite how hard it is, I loved going through pregnancy. But I’m done, four is more than enough for us,” she jokes.

“I would’ve gone for more,” I reply. “But I don’t think my body will take kindly to anything after this. The Doctor said twins at this age will be hard on my body. So far, they’ve been fantastic though,” I say, eyeing the twins growing inside of me with hopeful eyes. My OGBYN is amazing, the best we could find, and I trust her to guide me through all of this.

“So, where’s my brother?”

I look at Brittany and laugh, then point. “Over there.”

Alastair’s got Aldous, our first boy, in his arms. He’s only two, and was feeling a little bit gutted that the party wasn’t for him, so Alastair’s been by his side all day long.

As I look at him playing with the kids, I can’t help but remember the first time we met. The time when he thought he was dressed as a future dad. Future, that was for sure, because now, I rarely see him in suits anymore, not when he’s around the kids at least. He’s wearing shorts and a polo shirt, stained with grass from rolling with the kids while playing soccer.

Our life is everything I could have dreamed of and more. We have the kids, a lovely extended family, and a house to call a home. A home surrounded by mountains and forest, a nature that calls to my inner witch every time the moon is full. A time when I often sneak out to this very backyard, casting spells by the edge of the forest to keep my family happy, healthy, to thank the Universe for everything we have.

And I can’t lie, seeing Alastair like this, running with the kids, it lights the same fire inside of me from the first time I saw him with a suit. Or naked. Or in any other way.

His eyes catch mine, and he smiles at me, as if knowing what I’m thinking about. When he winks, I know what’s waiting after the kids go to bed exhausted tonight—and I can’t wait for it.
