ADALYNN

“You said you were adopted,” Razor says, glancing over at me, his expression soft, as we make the drive back to his hotel

“Yeah,” I murmur, angling my head against the window to look at him. “Um, when I was ten. I grew up in foster care before that.”

“Damn, pretty baby. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be.”

He turns from the road to look at me, a question in his ocean eyes.

“I mean, growing up in foster care isn’t great. It was kind of awful, honestly. But I landed on my adopted parents’ doorstep when I was nine. They decided right then and there that they were keeping me.” I smile at the memory. My mom is fierce, with a heart bigger than the ocean. As soon as she found out that I had younger sisters, she fought for them, too. Within a week, we were all living under the same roof for the first time in months. “They always wanted a big family but were only able to have my older brother. They ended up adopting me and my four sisters.”

“There are five of you?”

“Yeah.” My smile grows. “I’m the oldest. Then there’s Leia, Heidi, Charlie, and Gemma.”

“There are three of us,” Razor murmurs. “Me and my twin, Ryker, and our baby sister, Jules. Jules lives here in town. She’s married to Dillon. Ryker works for the CIA. He gets in touch when he can.”

I blink at him. “You have a twin who works for the CIA?”

“Yep. Identical.”

“Whoa.”

His low chuckle washes over me before he cuts his eyes in my direction again. “Just so we’re clear, you aren’t allowed to think he’s fucking hot, Adalynn,” he growls. “I’m the only man you look at.”

Oh, he’s so bossy! Why is that so sexy to me?

“Yeah?” I say, narrowing my eyes at him, trying not to let him see how much I love when he goes all caveman on me. “Then do I get to be the only woman you look at, Razor? Because you’re the one who has the whole world screaming his name.”

“Pretty baby, you’ve been the only woman I’ve seen since I saw you in thosefuck meboots at the mall,” he says, rolling to a stop at a traffic light. He turns in his seat, reaching across the console to tip my chin up. “I haven’t taken my eyes off you since. I don’t give a fuck who else is screaming my name. It’s your voice I want to hear breaking on it.”

Oh, jeez. This man should seriously come with a warning label. He’s far too dangerous to every part of me. Especially my heart.

“You left the bar with Razor Montgomery last night,” Leia says as soon as I answer the phone.

I pull it away from my ear, blinking to make sure I didn’t misread the name when I answered the call. Usually, Charlie is the first to know everything.

“I don’t even want to know how you know that already,” I mumble, flopping backward on the bed to stare up at the ceiling. It’s scary how fast my sisters work. Even though I’m hours away, I still have no secrets from them.

“Charlie told Gemma, who told Heidi, who told me,” Leia says. “Why did you leave the bar with Razor Montgomery last night?”

Because I think I’m in love with him.

My head spins. I think my heart does, too. It’s way too soon to feel this way, isn’t it? I barely even know him! And yet… and yet, the more time I spend with him, the more certain I am that I wasn’t entirely honest with him or with myself today. I told him I was falling for him. But I think I’vealreadyfallen. I don’t even know when or how, but somewhere between the bar and waking up in his arms after our nap, I stopped falling and landed.

I’m in love with Razor Montgomery.

“Holy crap,” Leia breathes into the phone. “You’re in love with him.”

“How can you possibly know that?” I cry, sitting up. “I didn’t even say anything!”

“That’s how I knew. You get quiet when you’re overthinking, and you overthink everything.” My sister snorts indelicately. “It’s what you do.”
