One made during death, to give us a new life.
Here I was, battling men that just kept coming after me, one after another… just like my problems with my father. You said I had to cut the problem off at the head. You said you stop a train by slamming on the brakes, not trying to wrangle the caboose off the track. Legend cut the head off the cobra on my behalf, and I slammed on the brakes, and listened to my father. I finally heard him, the truth this time around, once and for all.
Master tried to shut out the world around English… tried to make her not hear the reality of his manipulations and abuse. But she woke up and heard the truth. Mama heard the cries of her children, and did what she needed to do to protect us, including kicking out a man she loved to the bottom of her soul. Daddy didn’t listen to good advice, and instead tried to force others, including me, to hear what he wanted us to hear… Lies that hurt. Lies that destroyed.
I heard no evil for a long time, but that didn’t stop it from talkin’. It caught up with me, and made me listen all the same. The evil was dripping in alcohol. Covered in cigarette ashes. It was laced with drugs I didn’t deal, money I didn’t steal, but plenty of people I did in fact kill… But the evil wasn’t just inside of my enemies, and my daddy. It was in me, too. It’s been a part of me all along.
Legend sees no evil, but he’ll be forced to remove his blinders, just like the horses out there runnin’ around, to finally see his pain for what it is. Something he saw must’ve spooked him for life, and as tough and rough as he is, he’ll have to face his fears eventually, and look them dead in the eye if he ever wants to be free. Legend will be ready to see whatever is distressing him in due time. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Caspian speaks no evil—he barely talks to us, even after the wedding. He was friendly enough, hung out and acted jovial, and we’ve kept in contact, but something is bothering him. Something is on his mind. Something has him by the tongue, but he must fight it, and let his words finally be heard.
I’m ready to listen. To hear his pain.
That’s who we are, the Brothers’ Disciples. Three of the worst kids in school, who found solidarity in one another. We promised to always be there for one another, because at one point in time, we were all we had.
Now, the tribe is back together, and I’ll be damned if we don’t fulfill our promises. I’m leading the charge. No man will be left behind…
Axel reached for the Bible on the table, shoving his pack of Nicotine patches out of the way, and flipped to the scripture he read at least once a month…
Psalm 23:1–6 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
And that’s on everything, Ms. Florence…
As Legend always says when he thinks somethin’ is mighty true… CHURCH!
Love is a battlefield…
I’m in my armor, and prepared for war.
Free my brethren with two more promises fulfilled!
LET’S GO!
