“If you don’t, I’ll use this on your mother. Do you want her death on your conscience?”

“Why are you doing this?”

“Because the first time I saw you, I knew you were mine.”

“Kenneth, this is going to get you killed. Walk away now.”

“I’ve been planning this since I started working here. The timeline has had to be moved up because of the wedding, but I’ll make it work. Now, let’s go.”

She flinched when he grabbed her arm. He didn’t hurt her, but she didn’t like being touched by him.

She prayed one of the other guards would catch them, but it never happened.

He got them down the back steps and out the door that took them to the garages where they kept the vehicles. Then he put her in a black four-door Jeep that she assumed was his and got in the driver’s side.

“I want you down on the floor until we get out of here.”

Angelica wiped the tears falling down her face. “Please don’t do this.”

“I wasn’t going to do it this way. I thought I’d have timeto get you used to me, but I knew my time was up when I found out about the wedding. Now get down. If we’re caught, I’ll start shooting.”

She knelt down on the floor and prayed they’d be found before he left the driveway.

He rolled down his window and called out to someone before driving out. For ten long minutes, they rode in silence.

“Okay, you can get up. We’re far enough away.”

She lifted herself into the seat.

“Buckle your seatbelt, my love. I don’t want you hurt.”

A shiver raced down her spine at his endearment. “But you are hurting me,” she said.

“Once you get to know me, you’ll realize we were meant for each other. I’m going to do everything I can to protect you.”

She sighed, buckled up, and wondered if they knew she was gone. “Where are you taking me?” she asked.

“I have a place ready. It’s stocked, so we won’t have to go anywhere for a while.”

God, that didn’t sound good. Please come find me, Duncan. The thought of being alone with this man scared the hell out of her, and she just wanted to be home.

Chapter Eight

Aria walked into Mateo’s office. “Have you guys seen Angelica?”

Duncan looked up at her as he sat in a chair by Mateo’s desk, waiting for his woman.

“No. I thought she was with you,” Duncan said.

“She was. She said she was going to pack a few bags, and when I checked on her, she wasn’t there. There were several bags open on her bed with a few things she packed, and several pairs of shoes left on the floor.”

“Maybe she’s looking for someone or in another bedroom.”

“I checked.”

Duncan turned to Mateo and was instantly suspicious at the look in his eyes.

“What’s going on?” Duncan asked.
