I eyed the guys around the bonfire. “Ginger!”

Skid’s younger brother looked my way. I nodded at the woods. Without a word, he stood and marched to keep an eye on Serena.

From now on, all Beth’s girls would be followed. No one breathed without my knowing about it. If the cunt found refuge at another chapter or a rival club, she’d start a war or at least try to set a hit on Cammie again. For that she’d need intel. Who would be a better snitch than her own whores?

If the brothers didn’t find her tonight, I’d just sit and wait for her to make that mistake.

CHAPTER 17

Dusty

“A little harsh on the girls?” Owl sat on my bed, his flashlight pen in hand.

I snapped my head over to him and held his stare. He was hovering over the line, and when he broke the stare, I knew he got it.

He lifted Cammie’s lids one by one. “Just saying Beth turned her back on them, too. She controlled everything from within. Even the books.”

“Is that how you’re telling me you can’t do your new job?”

“The whole system is a fucking mess. She didn’t make it exactly accessible for anyone else to use it.” He checked the IV and the monitor of the beeping machine next to the bed. “Anyway, I’m working backward from now. How far back do you want me to go?”

Trusting my own parents was a slip on my side. Trust itself was a deadly mistake that I wouldn’t make twice. “Until the very beginning.”

Owl’s bushy brows hooked. “You’re being a dick.”

I watched Cammie’s sleeping figure sprawled out on the bed, half-bruised, her arm in a cast. “Can you blame me?”

He just sighed and emptied her bag of piss.

“When is she going to wake up? This’s taking way too fucking long. Do I need to take her to a fucking hospital?”

“When it comes to brain injuries we have no certainties. She was badly beaten. She needs time to heal.”

I took off my boots and stretched beside her. The devious girl that barged into my life, changing it forever. The beautiful stranger that kidnapped me and stole my heart in the process.

“Get some sleep, Dusty. You’re no good to her when you’re exhausted and unable to think straight.”

“You go to bed. I’ll take care of her meds through the night.”

He shook his head, sighing again. “Just do me a favor and don’t go snorting powder on me now. There’s no way up from there.”

I tried to smile and failed. “Night, Doc.”

As soon as he closed the door, I started the routine of moving her limbs and checking for bedsores. She had none so far. Owl assured me those didn’t form until at least a week if not several. The idea alone of her lying like this for weeks made me wanna kill something.

I stroked her beautiful, long hair and kissed her forehead. “Please wake up, sweetheart. I love you so much. Don’t know what I’d do without you.”

CHAPTER 18

Cameron

A loud beeping disturbed my sleep. It was too close, right in my ear, inside my brain. It wouldn’t shut up.

My alarm didn’t sound like that. Neither did Ashley’s. Besides, she was never up before me. What the fuck was going on? Were we late to Professor Lahey’s class?

A smell of alcohol wafted into my nostrils and had me instantly confused. Suspicious. It wasn’t liquor alcohol; it was…sterilization. Our apartment was never clean enough to smell sterile.

I tried to open my eyes, but they were glued shut. My arms and legs defied me, too. I couldn’t move any part of my body.
