Her dad gestures that I should follow him. “I’ll walk you to the door.”
The look he and I share as I pass on the way out the door is like some sort of nonverbal standoff.
I’m not the best with parents, but I’m going to have to try. I turn around when I get to the bottom step of the porch to see him leaning in the doorway, arms crossed.
