“Are you kidding me right now, Grizz? What the hell is this? You’ve never treated me this way.”

“Treated you what way?” Justin asked as he approached. “Is there a problem?”

I did not need this drama. “There’s no problem.” I took out my phone and placed it in Grizzly’s hands. “I heard you called Mickey? That’s great.”Deflect, deflect, deflect.

Justin glanced from me to Grizzly. “Yeah, it was good to talk to her. Why’d you give him your phone?”

I waved him off. “You know how he is with electronics.”

Grizzly handed my cell phone back. “All fixed.” He stalked off without looking back.

All fixed? With Justin here, I missed what Grizzly had done to my phone. I wasn’t very tech-savvy, so I’d likely never know, but I’d bet the farm he had turned on my tracker.Shit!

“Mickey texted this morning that she might have a lead on Jax.”

My stomach flip-flopped. “Really? That’s wonderful. I’ll give Markey a call later. I was actually on my way to an appointment.” A weird feeling fluttered in my stomach, the kind I got when lying to my dad. But I couldn’t tell my dad about Jax until I knew if Johnny was his father.

“Storm know you’re leaving?”

I rolled my eyes, annoyed with the men in this place. “Honestly, Justin. He doesn’t control me.” I put my cell phone in my purse. “But yes, he knows.”

“Good. Be safe.”

“Always.” I waved on my way toward the entrance.

Once outside, I hot-footed it to my car before anyone else interfered with my plans. Every minute mattered. Storm and his crew had already been gone twenty minutes. Knowing them, they’d get to their destination in half the time just to return home as soon as possible.

“Sugar!” Tina hollered.

Jesus, what now?I slowly turned around. “Yeah?”

“What day spa are you going to? Or are you really going to see Jack?”

How did she know? “Please don’t try to talk me out of leaving. I just need to clear my head.”

“Clear it with Jack’s help?”

I groaned as I opened the driver’s side door. “I already told you how I feel. I’m not going to do anything with Jack, just talk to him. He’s a good listener.”

“I don’t like this, hon.”

“I’ll be fine.” I hopped in and started the engine.

“Please be careful. If anything happens to you, I’ll feel responsible for not talking you out of going.”

“Tina, I’ll be okay. I’ll text you when I leave the Soldier’s clubhouse.” I appreciated her concern. She was by far the most cautious woman in the club.

My dear friend had gone through a lot in her previous life with her ex, Bruno Gallo. He was a small-time crime boss in Chicago when Tina had escaped his brutality. When Raul had found her, she’d been in bad shape, severely beaten. Those two had gone through a lot before falling in love.

She stepped back. “Okay.”

I closed my car door, my heart hammering in my chest as I backed out of my parking spot. I had another hurdle to clear before I was free. I slowed and lowered my window as Maddox approached.

“Where you off to, Mom?”

“Spa day.” I flashed him a smile.

He peered into the car, noticing what I was wearing. “In that?”
