“Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. Lynx isn’t trying to hurt, Jaynee. The kittens are relentless and he isn’t himself right now. He only drinks so much when he’s hurting. I assume it didn’t go well visiting his mom.”
“She thought I was his wife and Sadie was his daughter.”
“So he pushed you away?”
I teared up. “Yes, until he gets the results of the genetic test. But I can’t sit back and let him screw around with someone else. He’s mine, Sugar.”
She smiled. “Then stop him from ruining everything.”
“It’s not my job to make sure he’s faithful to me.”
“No, it isn’t. But Lynx is an extraordinary man. A selfless, big-hearted man who will sacrifice his own happiness for someone he loves. Even sabotage it like now.” She jerked her chin toward the man I was falling in love with.
“If he doesn’t want me, brushes me off, then what?” Zander might be drunk, but I had a feeling when he saw me, he’d push me away harder than before.
“Make him want you. Show him what he stands to lose.”
I stared at Sugar as I processed her advice. “You mean, make him jealous.”
She winked, linking her arm with mine, and guided me into the bar. “Yes, ma’am.” She scanned the room. “Track or Copper can help you out.”
“Shit, Sugar. I don’t know about this.” I looked over at Zander and found him staring at me. “Oh my gosh, he sees me. I can’t do this.”
“Yes, you can. To be an old lady, you need a take-no-shit backbone. The Knights are loyal, but they aren’t perfect. They fuck up sometimes.”
“It feels like Zander has fucked up.” Our eyes stayed locked. What was he thinking?
“Mhm. I bet it does. Save him from himself. If he wakes up in the morning with Amber and the new girl in his bed, it’ll destroy him. Send him off the rails, then we’ll lose him forever.”
Lose him forever, stabbed my heart. I couldn’t lose Zander.
I inhaled a deep breath and blew it out. “Okay. I’ll do this.”
Ire blocked me. “Are you ready to fight for him?”
“Yes. You couldn’t distract him until I got here?”
He snorted. “They still have their clothes on, don’t they?”
I growled, moving him out of the way to go after my man. I might not have admitted Zander was mine before, but right here, right now, I was staking my claim. My heart violently pounded in my chest seeing him with those women. Yes, Zander Quinn most definitely was mine.
Why would he get drunk like this? I honestly couldn’t believe what was unfolding after all that we’d shared over the last few weeks. Didn’t he understand I’d stand by him no matter what? I could wring his neck for stupidly messing my heart.
My pace slowed the closer I got to him.
“Jay, you shouldn’t be here.” He looked at Amber. “Go away, girls.”
I checked out his crotch to see if he had a boner. He didn’t.
Amber put her hands on her hips. “Seriously?”
I stepped between her and Zander. “Do you need him to spell it out for you, kitten?” I towered over the pixie. The other chick stood there as if she didn’t know what to do.
His arm wrapped around my waist, his chest pushing into my back. “Leave her alone, Jay. She didn’t do anything wrong.”
I turned to face him. “You’re fucking right she didn’t. You did. Why would you get with these women?”
“I told you to stay away.” He lowered his face to mine. “We’re not talking about this in front of everyone.”
