Ire

I adjusted my dick to hide my hard-on before entering the clubhouse. Standing by the door in the bitter cold didn’t do squat for cooling my engine. Ava had that affect me. No matter what I was doing at her place, my body came alive if she was within reach.

This evening I’d put Christmas lights on her house. She was so cute about it when I’d asked her what chore she wanted me to do.

“I’d love twinkling lights on my house, Drew. But I don’t want to put you out. It’s cold and you could fall off the roof. Nevermind.” She’d waved her hand and shook her head.

As if I would let it go. Making Ava happy was my mission.

“I’ve never strung lights on anything. Let’s hit Walmart and buy up all the lights,” I told her as I went to the coat closet to get hers. When her face lit up brighter than the sun, her gorgeous smile practically splitting her face, I nearly grabbed her and kissed her.

“Oh my gosh, really?” And what did she do? A little happy dance.

On the way to the store, Ava had talked nonstop about Christmas. My girl loved everything about the holiday season, from baking to watching movies. But she never had lights on the house because she was afraid of heights and her grandmother never wanted to mess with them when Ava was a little girl.

It was painful to freeze my ass off while having an erection. Ava had stayed outside with me the entire time. When I’d steal a glimpse of her, my breath would catch in my throat. I’d never seen anyone more beautiful than my blonde beauty wearing a red coat and matching hat. She screamed Christmas.

After we’d gone inside the house to warm up with cocoa, I was done. My cock wanted to come out to play and I almost told her how I really felt. But I didn’t.

I sat on the stool next to Lynx. He had a half-full bottle of tequila in front of him. Not good, not good at all.

“Hey Ire, what will you have?” Hollywood made weird eyes at me. They flicked from me to Lynx.

“Just a beer.”

“Coming right up.” Hollywood reached for a glass and mouthed, “He’s in a bad way.”

I wasn’t blind. Anytime Lynx had a bottle of tequila meant something bothered him.

Hollywood placed my beer in front of me and promptly left. I downed half of it.

“What’s going on, brother?” I kept my face forward to watch Lynx’s expressions in the mirror behind the bar.

He winced and took a swig from the bottle. “Just fucked up, is all.” His head bobbed a little, eyelids sagging. Lynx was drunk off his ass.

Could it have to do with the single mom?

“Anything I can help with?” Since getting closer to Ava, offering to help someone had gotten easier. I’d spent most of my life ignoring people, staying closed off out of self-preservation. She taught me most people were kind, caring, and respectful of others.

Ava was a warrior. Despite all she’d been through, she wanted to heal and get back to living a normal life. She was doing it. Each day the scared little mouse I’d first encountered last year was growing into a confident, mighty warrior.

All I wanted in this world was to earn her love. On some level, I thought I had it… on a friend level anyway.

“Wanna put me out of my misery?” He slurred his words.

Amber and Heidi approached, both putting their hands on my brother.

“Come join us in the corner, Lynx.” Amber kissed his chin.

Heidi snaked her hand between his legs. “Yeah, we’ve missed you.”

Lynx sat there unmoving, but I saw the struggle in his face as I watched in the mirror. He wanted to say no to the kittens. He didn’t want them. Whatever was going on with him must have something to do with Jaynee.

“Becca, the new girl, would like to join us.” Amber turned Lynx’s face toward hers. “Remember how we wanted a third kitten to join us but none of them wanted to? Well, Becca is into all that.” She licked the bottom of his lip.

Fuck, my brother was getting in over his head. He wasn’t in his right mind. If he went with the kittens, he’d wake up hating himself. The weight of regret he’d feel would destroy him.
