“Baby, we need to stop.”
We kept kissing.
“Why?” Her hands cradled the back of my head.
I liked how she was more comfortable with our makeout sessions. Since the park, I’d managed to get my fix every day and it lasted me until the next. It was insane the way we were with each other. I had never been this way with any woman before her.
“Because I want to take you to meet my mom.”
She stiffened. Our lips stayed locked.
I rubbed my hands up and down her arms. “Unless you don’t want to?” I wouldn’t make her go. Meeting my mom was her choice. If she declined, I’d put the breaks on whatever it was we were doing.
Her arms went around my neck, and she hugged me. “I’d be honored to meet your mom.”
Goddamn, she just made me fall even more for her.
“Then let’s get Sadie and go. We can get dinner in the cities after.”
Jaynee smiled radiantly as she backed up, then turned off the water. “I need to change. I’m a mess.”
Her long brown hair was in a ponytail. She had on my favorite pair of leggings and a Knight’s Legion MC hoodie I gave her a few days ago. She looked scrumptious.
“Jay, you look hot, baby.”
Her cheeks turned pink when I caressed her hip. “I don’t want to look hot when I meet your mom. Give me five minutes.”
I stepped toward her, placing my hand on her cheek. I drank her in, hoping this wouldn’t be the last time I touched her. “Take all the time you need. I’ll wait for you.” Fuck if my heart raced as the words left my lips.
I would wait for her, for fucking forever.
“Thanks, I’ll hurry.” She pecked my lips and was gone.
Brother, we are in deep with this woman.
I didn’t want it any other way.
“Zander, relax.” She placed her hand on my bouncing thigh, giving it a squeeze. “It’s going to be okay.”
We were sitting on a sofa in the visiting room. Some patients could have visitors in their private suites. With my mom’s failing memory, it was better to not go into her personal space. She needed to feel safe there, so this bright and cheery room with yellow walls and large picture windows was where I got to see her.
“Sorry. The last time I was here, Miss Donna, that’s what she likes to be called, was afraid of me. She didn’t know me and cried.” If we had a repeat of my last visit, I wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“That was the day we met, wasn’t it?”
I stared into her calm, caring eyes. They were home to me. “Yes.”
“Dang. We were the last thing you needed to deal with that day.”
I took her hand and kissed it. “I won’t lie. At first, I was annoyed.”
She leaned into my shoulder. “And now?”
“Now, I don’t know what I’d do without you and Sadie.”
“Zander.” My name rolled off her tongue softly. “I feel the same way about you.”
Our faces inched closer. Jaynee licked her bottom lip. She was the best distraction a guy could ever hope to have during a stressful time. I moved in for a kiss—
