“I wouldn’t help you if I didn’t want to.” He leaned toward me. “Stop interfering with my good deeds.”

“Who was the woman? Where am I?”Distract, distract, distract. The heat in the small bathroom skyrocketed. I could hardly breathe with him in my space and his cologne turning me on. Dammit. I didn’t want to like anything about him.

He sighed. “This isn’t the place to talk about it. Peanut needs us.” He jerked his chin toward the bedroom.

“Fine. But your clothes won’t fit me.”

“Jesus Christ, woman.” He grabbed onto my hips, jerking me toward him. “You must not see what I see.”

My breathing hitched. “I know what I am.”

“What’s that?”

“Plus-sized. Not a beanpole like Pixie.”

“Pixie? Her name is Amber,” he snapped through gritted teeth.

Great, she had a cute name too.

“Whatever. All the women I’ve seen around you are beautiful and thin.”

His fingers dug into my flesh.

Just kill me now. I had way too much pent-up sexual tension. I might come on the spot.

“They don’t have anything to hold onto. You’re not only beautiful, but you’re also fucking unforgettable.” His face moved closer to mine.

Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. “Don’t you dare kiss me.” I slapped my hand over my mouth.

Zander stayed in place. “Why not? I know you want me to.”

I did. It was stupid, but he made me feel stuff I shouldn’t.

“For one, I need to brush my teeth. And two, nothing is happening between us. I told you, I’m moving.”Just keep pounding it home, Jay. Maybe you’ll believe it too.

“Fuck,” he hissed. “I’m not a relationship sort of guy.” A smirk played on his lips. “But we can enjoy each other. That orgasm you were desperate for when you arrived? I can help you with it. I promise you won’t walk for days once I’m through with you.” He wiggled his eyebrows.

My knees weakened at the promise in his voice. “As tempting as that sounds, I need to pass. Why complicate things?” If I screwed around with him, it could be phenomenal. It also might destroy me.

He flashed a mega-watt smile. “I’m tempting you?”

I put my hands on his firm chest and pushed him back. “Don’t get cocky. Now get out so I can change.”

“Need any help?”

I rolled my eyes. “Out, Zander. We’re only ever going to be friends.”

“Fine. I’ll go.” He pouted, leaving the bathroom.

I shut the door behind him, smiling as I pressed my back against it. This guy had to be messing with me. He didn’t really want to kiss me, did he?

It didn’t matter. I couldn’t lose my focus on the endgame: Florida beaches and amusement parks. A new life for Sadie and me. I might have ditched it all if Zander hadn’t come across as a player. I could play his game, getting some bedroom action before moving. I’d probably enjoy it immensely, but something told me not to go there.

Zander was dangerous.

The kind of guy I avoided—the sexy, cocky, I’m-every-woman’s-wet-dream, commitment-phobe type.

I needed a man I could trust. Someone who’d put a ring on my finger and vow to love me forever.

A player was the last thing I needed.
