Jaynee

I heaved into the toilet, emotion bubbling in my chest. “Not again.”

This was the third morning I greeted the porcelain with nastiness. Once my feet were on the floor, my stomach gurgled, and bile shot to my throat. It forced me to bolt for the bathroom.

My period was late. I didn’t have any flu symptoms. Crap.

The last time I’d had sex was the night Zander was arrested, the night everything I ever dreamed of was ripped away. That was three weeks ago.

I wiped my watery eyes and mouth with toilet paper, then pushed down the knob to flush away the grossness.

Pregnant.

I was positive Zander knocked me up, unless this was my body’s way of dealing with the stress I’d been under. Not likely. A woman just knew even if she’d been on the pill for several years. What was I to do now?

Zander had no clue because he was behind bars. Richard still wouldn’t allow me to have a phone. Not that I would know how to contact any of Zander’s MC brothers anyway. We hadn’t exactly exchanged phone numbers and followed each other on our favorite social media platform. Those bikers weren’t attached to their cell phones like the average person.

There was probably a Lifetime movie about a situation like mine. One where the woman had two baby daddies. The first one was a narcissistic asshole who didn’t give a shit about his daughter. The other was a kind, generous biker who loved the first dude’s kid as if she were his own. But the good-guy biker would never get the chance to raise his own child because the narcissist-asshole had manipulated the situation to his benefit and ruined everyone else’s lives.

I let my tears fall as I splashed cold water on my face. Sadie would be up shortly. If she saw me upset and crying, she’d follow suit.

My sweet girl struggled daily being away from Zander as I did. It was hard to comprehend how he’d become our world in such a short amount of time. But like with knowing I was pregnant, I just knew Zander was a keeper.

I dragged my weary ass to the kitchen to find saltine crackers. There might not be any since this was Richard’s place. Luckily, I could ask Luciana to buy some if the pantry turned up empty. She was the housekeeper who did everything for Richard. She was also his aunt.

“Good morning, Jaynee. Would you like coffee?” Luciana asked as I entered the sizeable gourmet kitchen.

“Oh no, thank you.” I fought the urge to put my hand on my stomach. Even the smell of my favorite blend turned my stomach.

I went straight for the pantry, desperate to find something to help settle my stomach. Ginger ale would be lovely.

“Luciana, is there any ginger ale in the house? I’m also not finding saltine crackers. Could you buy some on your next trip to the grocery?”

I frowned as I searched each shelf. The pantry was packed but not with anything I’d like to eat.

A hand snaked around my waist, and I jumped. “Richard!”

“Ginger ale and crackers? What’s going on, Jay?”

I scooted past him to leave the small space. “Nothing.”

“Jaaayneee.” He drew out my name like a suspicious father would do. “If your pregnant with that greasy biker’s baby, we’re going to have issues.”

I went to the opposite side of the island. Luciana was nowhere in sight. “I thought you went to the club this morning?”

“Don’t deflect. I did go. We have some business to take care of.”

“We? I don’t think so. I’m sick, hence the request for soda and crackers.”

He glared at me. “You’ve been off this week. A lot like you were when you were first pregnant with Sadie.”

My heart raced. I wasn’t sure what he’d do if I was pregnant. In a few months, I’d balloon out and wouldn’t be able to dance. Nobody paid to see a pregnant woman shake her tits.

“It’s the flu, Richard.”

“Don’t fuck with me and my business, Jay. If you’re pregnant, it’s early enough to get rid of it.”
