“Well, hello.” She put her hand on my shoulder. “Do you remember me? I’m Madeline. Storm and I got married last year.”
“Sorry, I don’t remember you. I’m Ava, Drew’s friend.” She looked at my nervous brother, then at my sweet baby. “Your daughter is darling.”
Angel scooped Birdie out of my arms. “Thank you. We’re smitten. Would you like to meet some of the other women?” She pointed to a table where the ladies were at. Leave it to Angel to swoop in and take control of the new girl. We all knew Ava’s story. Angel had seen her condition after the attack and had a soft spot in her heart for the young woman.
“Oh, um.” Ava stepped closer to Ire. “Is it okay if I go with her?”
“You’ll be safe here, Ava. I promise to keep my eyes on you.”
“Thanks, Drew.”
Ire, Track, and I watched the girls leave.
“Here.” Track handed Ire a shot.
“Thanks. I’m fucking stressed. If anything triggers Ava, I’m not sure I’ll know how to help her.” He drank the whiskey and reached for a second. “Two’s my limit. I need to be clear-headed tonight.”
“It’ll be okay, brother.” I couldn’t guarantee nothing would set Ava off. She had PTSD and was in therapy, but Ire needed some assurance. If the fuckin’ Dirty Hunter’s enforcer wasn’t already dead, I’d kill him for what he’d done to Ava.
“She’s a beauty.” Track stared at the blonde.
Ire gripped his neck. “Take your eyes off her. If you’re smart, you’ll warn all the guys to avoid her at all costs.”
Track winced in pain as he stood from his chair. “Sorry. I’ll let everyone know.”
Ire released him. “And nobody better call me Drew. Only Ava gets that privilege.”
“Got it.” Track saluted, then left.
I chuckled a little. Ire had never been possessive over a woman. But over the last year, he’d fallen in love with her. It was his shitty luck Ava had sworn off men forever.
My phone buzzed on the table with Grizzly’s name flashing across the screen. Strange that he would text me when he was across the room with Libby and Angel’s brother. Toby had surprised the hell out of us when he arrived last night unexpectedly. He was only in town for two days. I hadn’t gotten a chance to talk to him. He’d been holed up with Grizzly, teaching him new security tricks and shit. I knew nothing about the stuff computer geeks like them were into.
Grizz: Located Lane in Vegas.
Fuck yeah. Lane was the only person who knew Lynx had drugged his dad before moving to Minnesota. If we could get to him, Richard had nothing to use against Lynx.
