“It’s Tahoe day!” He waves the coffee in his hand as he comes closer. I climb out of the covers, not caring that I’m dressed in a tank and my underwear, and I pry the cup from his hands.

“Nope. No.” He pulls out of reach. “Get up and get your own.”

“Please?” I beg. “I need it.”

“Do you now?” His pupils dilate, and his lips tip up in the corners. Gabe gives me that smirk that has been my undoing since the day I first met him.

I frown and shove him back. Coffee sploshes from the side of his mug and I glare pointedly at the mess. “I’ll get my own.”

“Good.”

“Great.” I throw on a silk robe sitting over the dresser and stalk toward the kitchen. Seeing as my house is itty bitty, I don’t have to go far.

“Twold ya she’d be mad if we woke her up,” Axl says.

He chuckles. “Nah, Mama’s just mad I wouldn’t give it to her.”

An hour later, we’re piled in Gabe’s black Charger and heading north on the I5. Axl is sound asleep in the back, and I curl up against the soft black leather passenger seat with my spine to the window the way I used to when he’d drive us anywhere.

Gabe must feel my stare, because he glances between me and the road, several times. His lips quirk. “You wanna tell me what’s runnin’ through that head of yours?”

I throw a gummy bear at him, and he snatches it from his lap and tosses it in his mouth. “Just thinking about this car.”

His brows shoot up in a curious expression. “It’s got a lot of memories.”

“You ever think about selling it? I mean, with work and Axl’s school so close it hardly gets used, right?”

“I thought about it, even listed it on craigslist, but I couldn’t let it go.”

“It’s still so gorgeous.”

“Sex on wheels.”

I nod and laugh. “Sex on wheels.”

“You remember that night?”

“After the festival in the parking lot? How could I forget?”

“You were what? Two months pregnant?”

“Three months,” I correct. “That was the first time I’d felt alive in so long.”

“You came alive right there in my backseat. It was fuckin’ spectacular.”

“That was a fun night.”

“We could have fun like that again, you know?”

I glare at him.

“I’m not talking about the sex, dirty girl. Though, I’m not exactly opposed to it. But once upon a time, we could be friends. We could hang out. I miss that.”

I nod. I’d missed that too. “You think we can ever get back to just being friends?”

“Sure.” He shrugs. “Why the hell not?”

How about because every time we’re in the same room all I want is to sleep with him?Oh, this trip was a great idea.Just great.
