“Hard, mercilessly?”

My breath catches as I meet his gaze, telling him everything he needs to know.

“You understand that it will not be making love, but I will worship every inch of you as if it were?”

I nod again.

“Good. Then walk to the bed and bend over the railing.”

I do as he asks as if on autopilot. I face the bed and bend over the wooden frame, inching my arms in front of me on the duvet.

Arturo comes up behind me, his powerful hands stroking my hair, down my back and across my ass. “Spread your creamy thighs for me, mi corazón.”

I shift one leg and then the other, and he inches closer, positioning himself at my entrance. He grips my hair and tugs, making my back bow and he shoves inside me.

“Oh!”

“I’m going to fuck you so hard you’re going to forget any man ever fucked you before me. I’m going to keep you coming all night.”

“Yes, yes. God, Arturo. Please?”

He pivots his hips and slams into me, again and again, until I forget all about Gabe and the hell that I went through tonight.

Afterward, Arturo holds me in his arms, stroking the sweat from my body. I need a shower, but exhaustion settles deep within my bones, and I curl into Arturo’s side. It’s nice to be held, to feel his warm body against mine and hear his heartbeat in my ear. I could get used to this, and that’s a terrifying thought. Not just because of the complications with my job, but the fact that Axl could become attached, he already has, and I know Arturo feels the same about him.

And then there’s Gabe. Old, unreliable Gabe whose smile still sets my blood on fire, who disappoints me time and time again, yet who I can never quit, no matter how hard I try.

CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX

Lo

In the morning, I check on Axl. He’s still sound asleep, but he wakes when I try to close his door and sits up, crying out in pain.

“What’s the matter?”

“My wrist hurts.”

“I know, baby. How about we make some breakfast, and you can have your medicine? It might make you feel tired for a little bit, but that’s okay. You can sit and watch cartoons all day.”

“Where’s Daddy?”

I sigh. “He’s still sleeping, I bet.”

“Why didn’t he come to the hospital?”

“I don’t know. Maybe he had a client that ran late. Mommy will go check on him and share the news soon, okay?”

“Okay?”

“Hola, Hombrecito. How you feeling?”

“’Turo? Did you have a sleep over with my mom?”

“Kind of, yes. I stayed on the couch, is that okay?”

“Why didn’t you just sleep in her bed? You are dating, right?”

I frown. “Where did you hear that?”
