“I was going to say it was great, I had a great time, and you ... well, I’ve never ... I ...” Oh god how do I put this? “I screwed up. You’re my boss, and we’ve walked this road before. I shouldn’t have slept with you, Arturo.”
“Fine then, you’re fired.” He grins, but the humor doesn’t touch his eyes.
“I’m sorry.”
“Tell me something, mi corazón, did I not satisfy you? Did you not come against my cock and my mouth and my hands all night long?”
Heat creeps up my cheeks. “Yes.”
“And did it feel good to come against my cock, my mouth, and my hands?”
“Yes, but—”
“Then how can it be a mistake?”
“Because I ... I just have a lot to work out. There’s Gabe and Axl to consider and—”
“I know. I will do whatever you want when it comes to your son and your ex, but I will not give you up again.” He stands, completely naked, and eradicates the distance between us. His hard dick pushes against my abdomen, as he embraces me, but he trails tender kisses down my neck, and I forget all about my existing breakfast date with my family.
CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE
Lo
After two insanely hot and furious sessions that left us both with a little rug burn, I leave Arturo’s and complete the walk of shame. He’d offered to drive me, of course, but I’d declined because I wasn’t ready to throw whatever this was between us in Gabe’s face.
I slink home, grateful I didn’t run into the boys on the street, but as I slide my keys in the lock and open the front door, I’m met with the two most important men in my life. In my kitchen. Gabe cooking pancakes on the stove, and Axl already covered in syrup and batter.
What the hell? I stare blankly at them.
“What are you guys doing here?” I say, exasperated. Axl runs up to me and throws his little arms around my legs. I give him a smile and ruffle his hair, but it’s Gabe’s eyes that I meet as he sets down the spatula and turns off the stove.
“We thought you might like some company this morning, thought you might be lonely. Clearly, we were wrong.”
“Gabe,” I say, but he won’t look at me as he walks toward us. He crouches down in front of Axl and pulls him tight against his chest, and then he says, “Thanks for hanging with me last night, buddy. Be good for your mom.”
“You’re not staying for pancakes, Daddy?”
“No, Axman. I can’t.” His words are barely above a whisper, but there’s so much pain and despair in that one sentence, it’s as if someone just died. Without even looking at me, Gabe shifts past and leaves.
“Gabe, wait,” I say, but he doesn’t.
“Where’s Daddy going?”
“Hey, Axl, do you think you can be a big boy and go sit and eat your pancakes for me? I just need to talk to Daddy for a second.”
“Okay, but hurry up ’cause Daddy made you a bunny.”
“I won’t be long, I promise.” I turn and close the door behind me, and then I run after Gabe. The back gate slams and I bolt through it and call his name. He doesn’t answer the first time I call to him, or the second for that matter, he just keeps stalking toward his house.
“Gabe, can you wait, please?”
“I got somewhere to be.”
“Just please, will you let me explain.”
He turns around and the glowering fire in his eyes stops me in my tracks and has my heart pounding in my chest.
“What do you need to explain exactly?”
