“I should hope so,” Gabe says, and Clementine and I both turn to the doorway. He stands there in his jeans, his shirt hanging from his back pocket, no shoes, hair disheveled, and tattoos literally everywhere. I swallow hard as I look him over, wetting my lips and shoving another cheese-covered cracker in my mouth. “Because Gabe Jr. is going to need a baby brother or sister.”

I shake my head and glance down at my box of crackers. “We are not calling our child Gabe Jr.”

Clem pretends to shove a finger down her throat and makes a gagging sound that almost forces me to dry heave. “Please, for the love of God give your baby his own name.”

“Morning.” Gabe crosses the kitchen and presses a kiss to my forehead.

“Morning. You want something to eat?” I offer up my crackers and cheese but I’m secretly hoping he won’t take them from me.

Gabe makes a face at the items in my hand. “I do, but I do not want that.”

I grimace and set my stash down on the kitchen table. “Pregnancy cravings.”

“I have a client, anyway, so I need to get home and shower.”

“Oh.”

He gives me a lopsided smile and tucks my wild hair behind my ear. “I wish I could stay with you.”

“No, don’t be crazy. It’s fine.”

“Are you working tonight?”

“It’s my night off.”

“You mind if I come over? I’ll bring dinner.”

I bite my lip to hide my smile. It doesn’t work. “Are you cooking? Because there are certain things I’m not allowed to eat now.”

He grimaces. “Hmm. On second thought, I may need to do some Googling on what to feed pregnant people.”

He throws his shirt on over his head. And I frown. Gabe catches the gesture, and a cocky, uneven grin slips across his gorgeous features.

“Why don’t I handle dinner, and you just be here at five?”

“Deal. You want me to bring you anything?”

“Just your PJs.”

“Or I couldnotbring them.”

I shake my head. “Get outta here, already.”

He cups my cheeks in his big, tattooed hands and kisses me on the lips, his tongue slips inside, and he pushes me back against the counter. I moan, but the sound is swallowed by his mouth on mine. If I had any doubts about what Gabe wants afterlast night, they’ve all been erased in an instant with this deep, heart-hammering kiss.

CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

Three months later

Lo

The exam table beneath me is cold and my paper gown crinkles as I rub my arms. Gabe sits in the chair beside me and leans in. “You okay?”

“Yeah, just cold. Must be nerves or something.”

“Want me to warm things up for you and get started on your exam. I mean, your feet are already in the stirrups.”

“Oh my god. No. I do not want you to go anywhere near my vagina when I’m in a paper gown and my legs are strapped into stirrups.”
