“Remi,” Roxy said, facing me. “Maybe you should call the wedding off.”

“How?” I asked. “Everyone is coming. The caterers have already confirmed and so has the florist. Hell Roxy, the bitch called me and told me to go into town today and pick up my dress at three. It’s not possible.”

“Just pick up the phone and tell everyone the wedding is off.”

“I’ll lose the deposits!”

“Then you need to talk with Reaper.”

“I’ve tried Roxy. He won’t listen.”

“I think Momma’s right, Remi,” Ari said, checking on Jesse, who was sleeping in his crib. “I know Balthazar. He’s got his guard up. He’s about to snap. Whatever is going on, he is preparing for the worst. I’m sure Momma and I can help make the calls if you’d like. I’ll let Momma call Mrs. Worthington.”

Roxy grinned wickedly. “It would be my pleasure, darlin’. Just say the word.”

Shaking my head, I got to my feet. “Let me see if I can get Max alone first. He may not want to talk to me, but I know how to get him to listen.”

Roxy laughed boisterously, “Use what ya got, girl!”

Leaving the room, I headed downstairs, ignoring the brooding brothers. I would worry about them later. I had my own brooding asshole that I needed to take care of first. Once I had Max set to rights, I would worry about the others.

I jiggled the handle before the church door to find it locked. Chuckling, I reached up on the tips of my toes, running my finger across the top of the molding. When my finger touched a small metal key, I smiled, knocking it to the floor. Bending over, I picked it up and unlocked the door. Walking in, I closed the door fast, making sure to relock it as Max looked up at me and scowled.

Fucker better get that look off his face before I slap it off him. I was in no mood for his shit. Not today.

“Let me call you back,” he said sourly before putting his phone back in his cut. “What are you doing in here Remi? That door was locked for a reason.”

Grinning, I stood where I was as I cooed. “We need to talk.”

He groaned. “Not now. I’m busy.”

“Then get unbusy cause I’m not leaving until we have a conversation.”

Rubbing his hands down his face, he moaned. “Remi.”

“Don’t growl at me Max. I’ve had it. Enough is enough.”

“What do you want to talk about?”

“The wedding.”

Like a switch inside him, Max grinned getting to his feet. I knew that look. That look meant trouble for me. The way he was looking at me was predatory. A man on a mission and typically, that mission was to get between my legs. I was all for a romp in the sack, but not when I wanted to talk. Sex wasn’t the answer to everything, no matter what Max thought.

“Lock the door baby.”

“Max.”

Licking his lips, he slowly moved towards me, saying, “The wedding is in three days. Everything’s taken care of.”

“Really?” I asked, cocking my head. “Because the last I looked, this club doesn’t look ready.”

Max smirked. “Lock the door.”

Doing as he said, I turned to ensure the lock was in place.

When I turned back around, Max had a grin on his face and there was a distinct bulge in his pants that told me he was definitively ready to fuck. I could always count on Max’s sex drive to overrule all reasoning. The man never passed up the chance to fuck. However, the stark hunger in his eyes had me gasping a bit. It had been a while since I’d seen that raw desire in his eyes. He may have a lot of shit on his plate at the moment but throw sex on the table and Max becomes a singular driven man. I tried to regain control of the situation by holding up my hand and saying, “If you’re busy, I can come back later.”

He walked right up to me until his six-foot-two frame was next to mine, “No baby, you came looking for me and now you have me.” And with that, he lunged and kissed me passionately, full on the lips. His left hand wrapped itself around my waist and his right held the back of my head so he could kiss me as deeply as possible.
