“Do you know that he never fucked Darla.”

“What?” I asked looking at him.

“He only allowed her to suck him off. Even then it was hit or miss. Now, I’m not saying he never fucked anyone but I can tell you, he never fucked Darla. Not once. He told me once that he refused to dip his dick into the community pool.”

“I don’t know if I can do this.”

“I guess that’s the real problem then. Savage is all in. You need to decide if you are too. I know this life isn’t for everyone, but you seem to handle it pretty well from where I sit. Life isn’t pretty Jessie. You know that better than anyone. If Savage makes you happy, hold onto him and never let go. Life is an adventure. It can be a wild, exhilarating ride if you let it.”

Nodding, I reached for the doorknob. “Don’t stay up all night, okay. Tomorrow, we walk.”

“It’s a date.”

I headed upstairs to check on Hailey who was sitting up in her crib drinking a bottle. When she spotted me, she dropped her bottle, reached for the railing of her crib and stood.

“What are you doing up young lady?” I asked, picking her up. Grabbing her bottle, I walked over to the rocking chair and sat. Handing it back to her, she took it, sucking the contents down, snuggling closer to me.

“Your Uncle Lucas is not feeling well tonight. So, I hope I’m okay. Oh Hailey, I don’t know what I’m going to do. Uncle Lucas really messed up tonight. Really bad. I won’t give you the specifics but he’s in deep doo-doo.”

Hailey smiled, kicking her legs.

“That’s funny huh?” I smiled down at her. “Yeah, I guess it is. It seems I’m always saving him, doesn’t it? Lucas isn’t a bad man, just a little lost sometimes. I guess we all are in our own way. My whole life all I wanted was a life away from the club. Every bad memory I have is because of the Golden Skulls and what do I go and do? I fall in love with one of them. What am I going to do Hailey?”

The little girl blew milk bubbles, reaching for my hair.

“Yeah, I guess you're right. It’s the only thing I can do. It’s not going to be easy. It goes against everything in my being but I know it’s the right thing. Besides, if I leave him now, who knows what kind of trouble he will get into. He’s a magnet for that stuff. You’re gonna have to help me okay. Maybe together we can keep him on the straight and narrow.”

“You’d have better luck winning the lottery,” Reaper said, standing in the doorway, his sleeping son in his arms.

“I’ll buy a ticket tomorrow,” I smiled up at him.

“How’s Savage?”

“Sleeping. He will be cranky tomorrow and have a nasty headache but he will live.”

“Good.”

“Does my nephew have a name yet?”

“Yeah. Remi named him after the bravest, smartest most opinionated woman she knows. She named him Jesse.”
