Rolling my eyes, I groaned. “Jesus fucking Christ. You don’t even know what’s going on in your own house! And I’m the stupid one. Fuck, you can’t be that ignorant.”

“Look, my mother knows nothing about what I do.”

“Well, I hate to break the bad news to you but your mother is not who she seems. Wait a damn minute. You said Sunshine Kids not Child.”

“Yeah, it’s my mother’s charity. What about it?”

“Give me your phone,” I demanded, holding out my hand.

“Use yours, dickhead,” Gideon said, wiping blood from his lip.

“I don’t have a signal in this place.”

“What?” Jonathon questioned reaching for his phone and looking at it. He then looked up at us and said, “He’s right Gideon. I don’t have a signal either.”

Gideon reached in his suit jacket and pulled out his phone. “Fuck.” Looking around the place, he stepped outside onto the front porch and looked at his phone again. “What the fuck is going on here?”

Standing behind him, I saw several of the men patrolling the grounds all looking in our direction. When one of the men, slowly lifted his wrist to his mouth, I quietly said, “We need to get inside. Now.”

Gideon and Jonathon saw what I did and each nodded.

Closing the door behind us, I spotted Donatella rushing down the stairs, running straight for me. “I heard yelling. Are we leaving now?”

Kissing the top of her head, I glared at Gideon and said, “Yeah baby. We are leaving.”

Someone knocked on the door.

Gideon looked at me, then the door. I could see the wheels working in his fucking brain as he tried to put everything together. Had to give it to the man, he was fast and when he stared at Donatella, I knew he finally figured it out. Before I could say another word, he reached behind his back and produced a gun. He said, handing it to me, “I hope you are good as you say you are.”

“We need to get to a vehicle Gideon. The front is cut off,” Jonathon said, quickly looking out one of the front windows. “They are converging on the house. All of them.”

“Lorenzo,” Donatella whispered, her nails digging into my back.

“It’s going to be all right baby. I promise. Gideon, get us the fuck out of here.”

“I’ve got an idea but you are not going to like it. I’m going to need you to trust me,” he said, producing a gun of his own. When I looked at Jonathon, he was armed and moving quickly. We had just taken a step when Gideon yanked Donatella out of my arms, putting his gun to her head.

“WHAT. THE. FUCK!” I roared, aiming my gun at him.

“Trust me,” he said, then told Jonathon who also had his gun aimed at Gideon to open the front door.

Jonathon looked at Gideon as if he had lost his fucking mind. When Jonathon didn’t move, Gideon opened the front door and walked out with Donatella in his arms, gun placed directly at her temple.

Tears were falling down her face. Her body trembling. I wanted so much to kill that lying mother fucker where he stood but I knew if I shot him, there was a chance his body would flinch and he could inadvertently pull his own trigger, killing Donatella.

“Don’t move!” He shouted, walking down the steps of the main entrance. “I will shoot her!”

Instantly, every man on the grounds stopped.

Gideon moved slowly towards his vehicle which was parked near the front entrance. The second he was close enough, he opened the back passenger door and shoved Donatella inside. “Stay down!” he yelled, as he began to open fire.

Shooting my way towards the vehicle I jumped in, landing on Donatella, covering her with my body. Doors slammed and seconds later the car was speeding down the road.

“Stay where you are,” Gideon shouted, as he leaned out the window shooting his gun.

“Gate!” Jonathon yelled, before the vehicle plowed right through it, fishtailing as he tried to right the vehicle. The car sped up and soon, only silence surrounded us.

Donatella was crying uncontrollably, curled underneath me in the fetal position. Slowly moving, I pulled her into my arms, holding her close to my chest as the vehicle made a hard right and barreled down the main road.
