The people who’d put her there had been caught and put in prison. The Trainers had gone to court to officially become legal guardians of Nixon, which all parties were happy with. Jack and Rory had a son, Daniel, another nephew for him to spoil.
He also had Quinn. Luke wondered how he’d ever thought he’d be able to stop himself from loving that woman. Every time he saw her, he loved her more. He’d talk to her down a screen tonight, and that was okay, because soon he’d be holding her.
Jack opened the door to A.S.
“Surprise!”
Kids ran at him, and he shot his brother a look. “What the fuck?”
“Happy birthday, bro.” Jack wore a shit-eating grin.
He accepted hugs from his nieces and nephews. Family and friends too.
Nixon then pointed over his shoulder, so he turned, and there she was. He was moving before he realized it. Running, actually, and in seconds Quinn was in his arms.
“Why?” he whispered into her neck.
“They let me go early. I’m home now, Luke.”
He cupped her cheeks. Studied the woman who was his soul mate and held his heart. “I love you.”
She smiled. Her arms tightened around his shoulders, and he kissed her, long and slow. He wasn’t sure he’d ever let her go.
“Okay, this is a family show,” someone called.
“Later,” he whispered against her lips.
“Later. Happy Birthday, my love.”
“Best birthday present ever.” He kissed her again.
Together, they joined their family and friends. Life he thought, was pretty near perfect.
