“Well, damn,” Cubby said reaching for his cuffs. “You’re leaving me no choice with that language.”

The men backed away, shocked.

“You can’t be serious.”

“Deadly,” Cubby said calmly.

The men ran, snapping photos over their shoulders as they did.

“Was that for real?” Brad asked.

“Hell if I know, but it sounded good, and you losers will back me up and say he’s lying if he challenges me.” Cubby smiled. “So that’s what breaking the law feels like.”

Ryan laughed, then held out his hand for Cubby to shake.

“All good, bud. We look after our own here. Besides, you’re not the most famous person in town, you know.”

“So I heard. Those authors are a pretty big deal, right?”

“Exactly.”

“I’m really pissed with you right now, so you’ll get no sympathy from me,” Faith said.

“Harsh,” Ryan said.

“I’m not singing. I’m not a pro like you. I do it for fun and in the privacy of my own home.”

“Or Newman and Hope’s home?”

Her cheeks flamed with color.

“If I have to sing, you do too.” He said the words so only she could hear.

“It’s your job!” she fired at him.

“Which I’m pretty damn good at, actually, as you very well know, being my biggest fan.”

“Cruella and Druella are your biggest fans,” Faith said. “I just think you’re okay.”

“Nice. Those names really work.”

“I thought so.”

“You’ve always had a smart mouth.” He leaned closer, and she didn’t back away. “Maybe I need to kiss you to shut you up.”

“Not happening.” But her words held no strength. And the flare of heat in her eyes matched his.

Chapter 13

“Let’s go, Madonna.” She felt Ryan’s arm wrap around her waist.

He was still dressed in the same gear, no different from the rest of the guys in her team, but on him it looked dangerously sexy. The man was that and more, and she needed to remember he’d be leaving soon, and no way was he taking any part of her with him.

“I don’t have to get up there.” Faith looked at the stage and felt her stomach roll.

“You don’t, you’re right. But wouldn’t you like to give it a try?”

“No. Why would I? All those people watching me hit a wrong note.”
